Search Engines Want You

You may or may not know, but a lot of search engines have geographical locations. Here is a quick "Hot To" get listed all over the world on major search engines.

Here in Australia I often use the Google search engine to perform my searches but that all came about because I found it easy to use and understand. My good friend however, swears by MSN Live Search and another loves Yahoo.

When you take up with your hosting account you will often find that your site will be listed on search engines in the country of origin for your web hosting. Now in some countries, they do not use Yahoo or Google but other search engines.

Here is how you can get listed on those search engines without trying to hard and at the same time you will get more traffic to your site.

Have You Been Following Me

If you have read a few of my hubs, you might recall I wrote about Articles - Think Outside The Square. In that hub I touched on looking at a search engine listing to see if you could identify new or established Web 2.0 sites to put your articles for further exposure.

Taking this to the next step, there are Web 2.0 sites all over the world. An example of this is Blogger and Wordpress. Pardon me, but I believe those sites are based in the United States so correct me if I am wrong.

Now it is my view that if you live in another country, I live in Australia with United States hosting on one account, I believe and have proven that placing a blog on those two Web 2.0 sites gets me listed in the US search engines.

It stands to reason that if you have a page such as an article or a blog on another countries main Web 2.0 site, then the local search engine will come by and index your site, locally, as they do elsewhere.

By placing content on these sites my pages were indexed locally. I wanted to see if this could be taken a step further, outside the square, and try for other countries doing the same techniques.

Web 2.0 Local Sites

When your based in your own country, you can search for local search engines. An example of this is Yahoo England, Ireland or Canada etc..

By searching on those countries search engines using your chosen keywords, you will often find Web 2.0 sites local to that country.

During one of my searches I found a blog site, similar to Wordpress and Blogger in the United Kingdom. The name of that site is http://www.blog.co.uk/. Now I know the site offers a lot, but I really want to target the site for getting listed in that country.

By that I mean you can make a purchase for hosting and also revenue sharing.

The second test I did was to look in New Zealand using the local search engine and I found Share My NZ Blogs.

These blogs themselves have some very interesting authors that write about a variety of subjects and provide good research value, if your researching for niche sites.

Listed On Local Search Engines

The results are quite surprising. If you have a Wordpress blog, self-hosted as I do, the blog statistics show you where the traffic is coming from.

In this instance, I found a lot of traffic from the United Kingdom and some traffic from New Zealand. I can then go to the url of the referring site and low and behold, there was my site listed on the search engine for that country, quite prominently.

I have never had any traffic, organic search engine traffic, before from either the United Kingdom or New Zealand. I do from America, Canada, Phillipines and Australia, but really nowhere else in bulk quantities such as I am getting from these two countries.

International Search Engine Listings

As you can see, by searching local search engines you can find some very nice healthy page rank Web 2.0 sites such as BlogUK and ShareNZ to place your content on with rich anchor text and open url's to your chosen sites, pages or blogs.

In no time you will find some very interesting search engines referring traffic to you. One of my major referrers at the moment is a search engine not well known, but nonetheless, in that country it is well known and used.

You just need one listing that becomes a hot listing to your pages in another country that can make your site.

I say this as my sites use advertising modules. I will give you some food for thought..in the UK they pay with Euros, and Euros are worth three times an Australian dollar, excellent cost per click (cpc).

See the benefit of being listed internationally?

Well I am off for some further searches, I like Ireland and Europe at the moment, so I am sure there will be another free blog hosting site there somewhere.

Oh, and by the way, Google has a great translation service that translates your chosen language into a local language, so don't forget to get your articles translated, wink, wink, hint, hint......cough!!!
