Not All Headaches are Migraines

Not all painful headaches are migraines. Migraines have certain distinct features distinguishing them from other types of headaches. Most headaches are not serious and respond well to medications and lifestyle changes. However, some types of head pain are signals of more serious disorders and call for immediate medical attention. If the headaches are very frequent we may try a prophylactic daily medicine to help prevent your child from getting these headaches.

Secondary Headaches

Secondary headaches are the result of an identifiable structural or organic cause, such as lesions of the brain, irritation of the meninges (the covering of the brain), injury and pressure changes within the head. When you combine the vast variety of headaches out there and couple that the variety of headache suffers it should come as no surprise that the causes of headaches are just as varied.

Sometimes the causes are serious such as a tumor or aneurysm, those are rare. My headaches are nothing like they used to be. Taking that job saved my life, and I couldn't imagine what the case would be if I never saw a chiropractor.

Analgesic rebound headaches are caused by successively frequent use of pain relievers, both prescription and over-the-counter medications. Rebound headaches occur when your body becomes accustomed to frequent or escalating doses of medication you are taking. When the headache occurs in conjunction with a head injury the cause is usually quite evident; however, many causes of headaches are more elusive. The most common type of headache is a tension headache. Cluster headaches are not typically associated with nausea or vomiting. But as is true for people with migraines, people with cluster headaches may develop severe sensitivity to light and sound.

Although cluster headaches are very painful, with the right treatment most people cope very well. When a cluster headache does occur, medicines can greatly shorten the headache and reduce its severity. Migraine headaches are usually characterized by. Certain causes of headaches are unique to the elderly, such as temporal arthritis, also called giant cell arthritis. Inflammation in arteries that carry blood to the head, neck, and sometimes the upper part of the body can cause very severe headaches.
