Every person is entitled to one free credit report once a year. The first thing to do is obtain a copy of that credit report to see exactly where you stand. Then you can call around to lenders to find out what their criteria is for making loans. Most lenders are going to want to know what your credit score is. This doesn’t come with the free credit report. So, see which one seems like the one that fits your credit the best, then apply for the loan. Once they get your credit score, whether or not you’re approved you can ask them to tell you what your credit score is. If you don’t get approved for that loan, at least you have more information to provide to the next lender when calling to discuss the qualifications of getting a loan.

Once you have a copy of your credit report and you think you may found a lender that you can approach with your request, you need to get together materials to prove to that lender that you can make the payments on a loan. Your past credit isn’t going to matter at all if you can’t prove that you are able to take on the responsibilities of a loan.

Though you can get a personal loan with bad credit or good credit, homeland security has made the red tape a little thicker to do either.
