For any outdoor enthusiast the pesky Mosquito can be a real pain. Not only are they pests but they can carry deadly diseases, making your out door adventures whether at home in your yard or elsewhere a real danger. However there are steps you can take to avoid all the scratching and swatting of those pesky blood suckers.

When your are out side especially if you have children, the way you dress can make a big difference. I know the warm weather is coming but still long sleeves and pants can protect you against getting bit. During dusk and dawn it is especially important to keep covered because usually at those times mosquitoes are out looking for a meal. Dark clothing will attract them so where light coloured clothes when out doors as well.

I'm sure you have all seen those commercials about dumping all standing or stagnant water around your yard. Mosquitoes breed in these areas so it's important to go around and dump water from anything it may gather in or on. Typical areas with standing g water include, children's toys such as pools, tire swings, etc. Other areas are clogged gutters, empty plant pots, patio furniture, etc.

When outdoors where insect repellent, the repellent makes it harder for mosquitoes to find you but will not remove them from your yard. Remember to where repellent with DEET in it, that will help protect you. Also, stick to brands you trust for better protection, some other brands don't have the proper amounts of DEET or other ingredients to protect you properly.

Some other tips for keeping those blood suckers away from your yard include, bug zappers and citronella candles; just don't go spending a bundle because these aren't guaranteed. One more idea is depending on where you live, attracting bats with bat boxes will help because after all bats love to eat mosquitoes. So keep safe, protect your self and enjoy the warm weather that will soon be here.

Thanks for the advice. We live in Wisconsin, which is mosquito central, so we need all the help we can get.
