When you set out to get auto insurance estimates you should know what factors determine your rate. There are many different aspects that insurance companies use to determine your insurance rate. Here are a few factors that will help you get a better insurance estimate.

The type of car you drive is a big factor when deciding your insurance rate. If you buy a sports car you can expect to have a higher insurance rate. Sports cars are prone to faster speeds and because of this, they cost more to insure. If you purchase a minivan, however, you are likely to get cheaper insurance.

The year of the car also makes a difference. A newer car is less likely to have mechanical problems. They also probably have better safety features. If you buy a used, or old car, it is more likely to have trouble on the road and will cost more to insure.

If you buy a car with good safety features you will get better auto insurance estimates. Features like anti-lock brakes, air bags, and anti-theft systems will lower your insurance rates. If you are safe in your car, your auto insurance estimates will be lower.

Also, color can come into play when deciding on an insurance rate. Bright colors tend to attract more attention and are prone to receiving more tickets. Avoid colors like red, and yellow if you want to keep your insurance down.

You also need to be concerned with your driving record. The better driver you are the cheaper your insurance will be. Most insurance companies will look three years back into your driving record. If you have had no tickets or accidents in the past three years you should be able to get a cheap insurance estimate.
