But to get rid of bad breath, you need to first understand where it
comes from. Halitosis comes from the bacteria living inside your mouth.
When any food gets stuck between your teeth after you eat, these
bacteria will feed on it, releases sulfur as a byproduct. It is this
sulfur that gives you that distinct bad breath smell.
Now you can directly effect your bad breath by a change in diet. Any
food that has a lot of protein will have a large amount of sulfur. This
explains why many people who consume a lot of high protein suffer from
very bad breath. People that live off lots of fresh fruits and
vegetables are much less prone to halitosis because such a diet lacks
sulfur and promotes and increased flow of saliva. Saliva is very
important to combating bad breath because it helps to wash away
bacteria and left over food in your mouth.
Now, if you suffer from bad breath not caused by some sort of medical
condition or gastric disorder, you are a perfect candidate for bad
breath treatments. Bad breath treatment will enhance the effectiveness
of proper diet and oral hygiene on getting rid of bad breath.

First off, buy a decent toothbrush and some good dental floss. I
recommend getting one of those electric toothbrushes you see on every
toothbrush aisle. They used to be quite expensive, but now all the
major toothbrush manufacturers offer them for less than 10 bucks.
Electric toothbrushes offer a much deeper clean than do normal ones
because of the speed of the toothbrush head’s vibrations. Get the type
of dental floss that stretches out when you pull – it will help clean
your teeth better.
Here are some bad breath treatments you should follow if you have bad breath:
- You need to get rid of leftover food particles in your mouth after eating. So for best results, you need to brush and floss after every meal.
- Buy a good mouthwash as well. Mouthwash will remove some of the bad breath causing bacteria. Note that you should not purchase a mouthwash that contains alcohol. Alcohol will encourage the production of even MORE odor-causing bacteria in your mouth.
- Order-causing bacteria can be found on your tongue too. You need to brush your tongue regularly – make sure you include it when you brush your teeth. This will go a very long way to improving your breath.
- It goes without saying that smoking will contribute to bad breath. Smoking dries your mouth out, which indirectly gives the odor-causing bacteria free reign of your mouth. If you smoke, it’s a given fact that you will have disgusting breath. It’s much cheaper and more effective for smokers to stop smoking than to pursue commercial bad breath treatments.
- Stop consuming alcohol. Alcohol dries out your mouth which indirectly promotes bacteria growth in your mouth.
- Consider a commercial bad breath treatment. These can come in the form of bad breath toothpaste, bad breath mouth washes, even special pasts and bad breath oral supplements. There are products on the market specifically geared to target bad breath. I suggest adding them to your bad breath fighting regimen. Combined with proper dental hygiene, and diet, bad breath treatments can cure your bad breath.
So how you get rid of your bad breath depends on what you are willing
to do about it. Obviously, if you are unwilling to stop smoking, then
don’t expect much in the way of getting rid of halitosis. The same goes
for excess alcohol consumption. But those willing to practice proper
dental hygiene after every meal and pursue bad breath treatments can
cure bad breath.
