If you have declared bankruptcy in the past, then you know how difficult it is for getting credit after bankruptcy. Many things that people take from granted such as getting a cell phone, getting a car mortgage, or applying for loans is nearly impossible.

Fortunately, it is possible to get credit after bankruptcy. If you are looking for a quick fix, you may be disappointed. There are no fixes other then your hard work.

Now, I suggest you take a look on the web and look at the various bankruptcy websites that specialize in helping people recover from bankruptcy. Some of these websites offer after bankruptcy loans or credit lines, other sites have professional bankruptcy consultants that will personally give you advice. Spend a bit of time looking at what’s there. These places can offer you a lot of good, reliable information about bankruptcy and getting a loan.

There are a few things you have to do if you want to repair your credit after bankruptcy. You see, good credit is essential if you want to get a loan, get a mortgage, or even finance a car. Your first major priority should be to fix your bad credit.

I suggest you sign up to a credit monitoring agency (you pay a small monthly or yearly fee) so you can access regular credit reports. You want to go through all your credit reports (there are 3 different credit companies, you want 1 from each) and check for inconsistencies and errors. File a request for investigation for any errors you find. Credit monitoring agencies will also email you when changes are made to your credit files – something very useful if you want to keep an eagle eye on your credit score. And when you have bad credit and are trying to fix it, you want to keep close watch!

It’s essential that you try to reestablish your credit history. If you can fix up your credit, then you stand a good chance of getting credit after bankruptcy – credit like loans and mortgages. The easiest and most effective way is to apply for a secured credit card from your bank. You have to put down 500 or 1000 onto the card. You then treat the card as a “credit card”, making payments every month as you would a normal card. After a year or so, you can upgrade (or will be offered) an unsecured credit card and your deposit will be returned to you.

It’s essential if you have declared bankruptcy to get one of these secured credit cards for bad credit. Having one and using it wisely will fix up your credit fast.

Treat your credit card like cash – ONLY spend what you can immediately pay back the same day. You only want to make sure you have at most 2 credit cards. Too many can hurt your credit. Try not to leave a monthly balance on your credit card that is more than 1/3 of the limit. Even if you technically “have” the money since the balance of the credit card is essentially your deposit, you can still hurt your credit if you don’t pay it off or keep a balance too high at the end of the month.

You should also take a good hard look at your financial situation. Do you have bad spending habits that could lead you into debt spending in the future? What were the reasons that caused you to declare bankruptcy? If you have bad spending habits, you need to fix them, immediately. If you don’t, you won’t be able to get out of your financial hole.

One way to do this is to create a strict budget each month and follow it. You will have to track all your spending, count each receipt to get an accurate estimate about how much you are spending each month. You will be amazed at home much money goes to thing you actually don’t need.

If you have declared bankruptcy or are having financial difficulties, I suggest looking at these related sites:

If you follow this advice, you stand a very good chance at repairing your credit history within two years. This will allow you to access bank loans, personal loan, finance a car, etc. Getting credit after bankruptcy is very possible, but you are going to have to put the work in to achieve this.
