Not everyone has access to a cosigner. I personally don't have anyone that would cosign for me on anything. My parents are stingly with stuff like that and on top of that, they went through a bankruptcy a few years ago. They also have no money and don't believe in credit cards. In other words they don't have good credit because they don't know how to use credit.

When I got my first auto loan, you better believe that I had to get it all by myself. Of course, I was 27 years old when this happened and until then I had no real chance of getting a loan because it took me that long to get my credit figured out. I had to pay almost 9% interest and as auto loans go, that's a lot of interest.

Obtaining loans without cosigners can be very costly if you have a poor credit rating or have established no credit. In all cases one must have one of the other, and in some cases you must have both.

Getting loans without a cosigner is going to depend on a lot of factors. The loan type can make all of the difference in the world. I'll outline some of the scenarios that you could run into.

Getting Student Loans When You Don't Have A Cosigner

If a student loan is what you are trying to obtain, you should first exhaust all federal financial aid possibilities. Federal student loans are guaranteed by the government, and do not rely on your credit history. They also do not require a co-signer.

The best route to take is probably to use your guaranteed federal student loans for the first two years of college. During this period you should apply for one or possibly two credit cards. These credit cards must be used in a very specific and careful manner in order for this process to work properly.

Your credit card should be used only to pay for necessary purchases which would have been made even if you had no credit cards. The balance must be paid in full each and every month in order to avoid interest payments, penalties and service charges. Even though it actually is, this should never be considered borrowed money. Instead, consider this much the way you would your checking account. There are even some credit card companies which will pay you for certain purchases, provided that your balance is paid in full each month.

The purpose for doing this is to establish a positive credit history. Now that you have spent the first two years in college, with the use of your federal student loans, you may seek to continue furthering your education. If you have followed the credit card plan properly you have also established a good credit rating. Now you will be ample to apply than likely be approved for loans without cosigners.

Auto Loans

If you need to get an auto loan and you don't have a cosigner, things may get tricky. I ended up paying extra interest for my first loan. You really need to make sure that you improve your credit and that you have a solid employment history. Having a job for more than six months can help out quite a bit if you need an auto loan.

Personal Loans

There are certain types of personal loans that you can certainly get without a cosigner. For example, payday loans are very easy to get without a cosigner. I don't really recommend payday loans but if you want to get one, you'll get approved without too much problem.

There are also other types of personal loans that you can get from a bank. If you want to know if you can qualify for those you can look at my personal loan requirements.

No credit check personal loans are always going to come in handy if you have bad credit. I personally did for a long time and needed these loans more than once just to be able to eat.

High Credit Score And Employed

If you have a high credit score, you really aren't going to have to worry a ton about getting a loan, as long as you have a steady job. You are basically the perfect candidate if this is the case for you. You have nothing to worry about. Walk into a bank and you'll be able to get basically any loan you want.

Getting a loan without a cosigner is no problem if you are employed and have good credit even in this economic climate. If you have bad credit then I think it is time to recruit a cosigner that is trustworthy.

Great article, I would have serious issues acting as a cosigner for anybody except immediate family.
