The most important thing to recognize is that you don't just want to write.  You want to write well.  The only way to do this is to learn the basics of the mechanics of how.  You can absorb a certain amount of this by osmosis, so to speak, from reading a multitude of books and articles.  However, if you learn the tricks of the trade, it will make it a lot easier for you to do as you wish and get started writing!

There are no dogmatic rules for how to start writing, but there are general guidelines that will serve you well to learn and utilize as you attempt to start writing, especially when you are suffering from that ever so horrible condition, writer's block.
