Getting your dog to communicate he has to go out is one great things to figure out as a dog owner. I know that each one of my dogs has a different way of communicating that he has to go out. So it does take a little bit of time to figure out how your puppy is going to tell you that he has to go out, but once you do figure it out you will be blessed in knowing exactly when your puppy has to go out. I know that I have found a couple of methods that work out great in managing to get my dog to let me know that he has to go out and I thought I would share them here.


Ways I know my Dog is Communicating he has to go out

The way that I know that my dog is communicating to me that he has to go out is by actually observing my dog for several months while he is in the potty training phase of his life. Here is the first way that I have found to get my dog to communicate with me that he had to go potty.

The first method is by using bells for my smaller breed dog. Now I know that for some people this might seem silly or not feasible, but I have found that they do work out great when they are hung on the door handle of my back door. Now this might not be a feasible solution to some people if they have the door open all the time or do not even consider that the door is to high for the dog to reach, but if around the holiday time you see those Santa bells with 4 bells on it and a big ring those work out great. I know that is what I use for my bell set up for my dog and it works out great.

The second method is by trail and error of observing my dogs. Now one of my dogs will do a bark when he has to go out, and one of my other dogs will just stand by the back door until someone notices him thankfully he is well trained!! Which this method can lead to me missing some of the times that my dog has to go out, but at least I know by observing them what they are going to start doing prior to having to go potty.

While their is no set method of being able to tell if your dog is communicating when he has to go out because each dog is different. I mean I have three dogs that each one has a different way of telling me when they have to go out. So if you are trying to teach your dog how to communicate how he has to go out to you I would suggest the bells as a try, and just simple observation of your dog to find out what he does before he has to go potty and before he wants out.
