Does life feel a little ho-hum of late?

Well, it's time you embraced enthusiasm and find the kid in you again.

Summer is a season filled with promises and adventure. And you will be surprised how our life goes through seasons of its own as well. We lose the zest for life that children seem to have abundant of as we grow into adulthood. Life is a long journey and enthusiasm is the fuel that sustains you. It lifts you up when the situation looks dark, and it energises you when you are tired.

So, if you are feeling slightly under the weather, below are some great ideas to inspire you to seek that summer that's just right above the clouds!

Internal Dialogue

It actually takes energy to be enthusiastic and positive so tune into the energy of enthusiasm within you. If you need to think of something you are enthusiastic about to get it started. Turn up the volume on it and let it spread through your whole body. Practise doing this when you wake up in the morning to set the tone for the day and turn up the volume on it whenever you feel yourself dipping down into lower vibrations. The next time you experience someone or something unpleasant, once you've acknowledged your initial reaction, ask yourself how you want to feel. If you want to feel good then choose to let your enthusiasm be bigger than what you are encountering!

Eliminate Dread from Your Life

Dreading over things and tasks is one of the most energy-zapping activities there is and nothing kills your enthusiasm faster than dread. And since you can't "dread" away Monday from coming or attending that horrid sales meeting, you might as well change your mind set towards them. Psych yourself up for these things instead of thinking how you have to endure them. You have to programme yourself to think the opposite - make yourself look forward to it and make it sound like fun! Try having simple and pleasant thoughts like, "Mondays won't be that bad, at least I get to wear that new pair of shoes I bought the other week." Even telling yourself that it'll be a great day because you have a "good feeling" about it might just do the trick. It might all sound like a big cliché, but you will be amazed how your brain functions differently once you change your thinking patterns. You will find yourself happier even though things might not have changed and you might actually look forward to the things you used to dread.

Create a "Kid Moment"

If you watch 2-year-olds carefully, you will find that they are much focused beings. While in the midst of doing something, they are fully doing it. They're not playing with a toy while checking their BlackBerry. A "kid moment" is allowing yourself to do one thing and do it completely and wholeheartedly. Make it something simple like lie on the grass and look up at tall trees or fool around on an Etch-a-Sketch. Adults may feel trap by crowds and lines, but the 2-year-old escaped into the infinite space of a simple pleasure such as looking at the clouds and seeing imaginary creatures.

Take Time to Enjoy the Small Things

Do you remember as a kid, how the slightest thing often delights you and how wonderful that bubbly happiness felt? Well, it's good that if you can find the time to recapture that simple pleasure of happiness. Allow yourself time to enjoy the rain, the smell of freshly cut grass and marvelling at a rainbow.

Just stop typing at your computer for a while and listen intently when the rain falls and stare at how graceful the birds fly. Get lost for a minute or two and allow yourself not to take all these little wonders of the world for granted. See how these "stolen" moments will bring a small smile on your face and improve your productivity!

Surround Yourself with Enthusiastic Friends

It's often quite difficult to maintain enthusiasm when you are alone. It will be much easier if you are with some enthusiastic friends. This way, when you are weary, their fire can ignite yours. In turn, when they are weary, your fire can ignite theirs. This way you will always have fresh fire transferred from your surrounding. The first step is to look around and find the people that can potentially do that. On the same note, avoid negative people because they will drag you down. Of course, sometimes you need to reach out to them, but be sure that you energise them and not let them take away your energy!

Do Things That Make You Happy

It sounds so simple that it's hardly worth mentioning but so many people forget to do just that. If you do one thing that makes you happy daily you will remain enthusiastic about life. It could be as simple as giving yourself a treat such as your favourite ice-cream or locking yourself up in the room and blasting an embarrassing fun song that you like to dance to. It could be something a little better planned like going on a picnic, go barefoot on the grass at the park or on the beach. Or you might decide to drive to a spot where you can quietly watch a sunset with your favourite drink in hand. There are endless things to do in the world you live in that doesn't require a lot of money and time. Don't ever lock yourself in and put yourself in a tiny depressing cycle because your life is about more than that!

So, embrace that summer and don't let the sun go down on you!

Embrace the Kid in You

Don't let the kid in you disappear because he or she definitely knows how to have fun!

  • Take time to enjoy the small things again. Take the time to smell the roses - literally.
  • Create a kid moment for yourself. Don't take things for granted; appreciate them as if you are seeing them for the first time?
  • Make time for being silly. Just do something for the fun of it. It has nothing to do with work, house chores or anything that's beneficial. It's called fun time!
  • Above all, remember what famous philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson said:

"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm."
