What can you write about

Some times you may want to write something on HubPages, Squidoo, your blog, or something similar and you are totally clueless what to write.

You may think you have writer's block.

But in reality you only need a kick start or a kick to the side of the head.

Perhaps once you have an idea what to write about things will be easy. Just write the title at the top and write, write, write.

How to get ideas for what to write?

You can just start at random and look in a magazine, website, even the dictionary to get ideas of what to write.

You can go to a bookstore and browse the books and magazine or better still you can go to a public library.

Search for topic that are interesting to you and either you know something about or you wish to know something about.

Sometimes I get ideas for what to write just because I observe something that goes on in my life and write about my reactions to the event:

  • The other day I saw there were a few weeds in the vegetable garden and I started taking them out and noticed how much fun it was if you considered it as exercise.
  • This post on a health blog led to an idea of de-weeding you mind which I write on our main psychological blog.

So here a single event which I had to do gave me ideas for two blog posts.

All ideas are not equal for website marketing

So if your intention is just to get ideas to write (I accepted the challenge to write 100 HubPages in 30 days so I need lots of ideas), you can just look at anywhere and get ideas glore.

However, if you wish to make money on Internet or get a following, you need to write about things people are interested in. The following are some sources to give you clues about what people are reading on the Internet:

  • The keyword question tool from Wordtracker.
This is a free tool and you enter a keyword and get questions people are asking on search engines. For example I entered writing ideas and got: what are some good ideas for introducing the writing process+middle school which is searched for three times a day. Now I do not personally write about any question which is searched for less than nine times a day. However this is a good way to get long tail keywords to write about.
  • Yahoo answers is another good place to find out what people are looking for. For example I have a blog about photography and so if I cannot think of a question to answer I can search Yahoo answers and if many people have the same question I can write about that topic.
  • Another way to get marketable ideas is to use a keyword tool like the paid version of Wordtracker. I'll write more about this in a later post. The point here is that you can find keywords which have relatively speaking a lot of searches but a few pages available for them.
  • The last tool I use to get both ideas and possibly sources of what to write is Google Alerts. Here you can get relevant new information on Internet delivered to your email. So this helps you keep up to date with the latest happenings in the field you are interested in. Moreover, many posts are news releases that you can use with minor alteration. The whole purpose of new releases are to disseminate information and get the word out about a person, or corporation so using them as the starting point so your writing is an easy way to start your content.
  • You can also go to one of the many new release organization on Internet and search the news releases for both ideas and for what to write.

This is actually to get over writer's block:

One way I forgot to mention is just to write for a given length of time. So you say each morning between six and seven you'll write. During this time you are in front of your computer or piece of paper with pen in hand and do either nothing or write.

You do not answer email - you do not watch TV - soon your mind becomes bored of doing nothing and you get over writer's block.
