Hangover is the term used for the various combined effects of over indulgence in drugs or alcoholic beverages. Drinking excessively usually causes severe headache, nausea, dehydration and exhaustion. These symptoms manifest themselves the morning after the bingeing. The common length of time a person needs to recover from a hangover is several hours but this can sometimes continue for a couple of days.

There are no real cures for hangovers except to wait for the effects to wear off but it is highly recommended that you keep your body replenished with water and whatever food you can keep down. Then there are the cures that are no more than myths. The weirdest of them is the dog hair method. This comes from the flawed belief that the way to cure a dog bite is by placing dog hair in the wound. According to it, a person suffering from a hangover should consume more alcohol to help with the symptoms.

The best cure to a hangover: do not ingest excessive amounts of alcohol. The saying rightly fits here, Prevention is better than cure. Finding a suitable remedy once the hangover has crippled you is quite difficult. Why not try the easier way out of curing it before it has started? I mean when you are certain you have had a drink too many and you are in for an agonizing morning after; there are things you can do to make sure you avoid the hangover. However, this shortcut is only for those who can act responsibly and have a lot of self-control. If you are one of such people, read on.

Now one way is to avoid drinks that are dark colored. These are made of molecules which are a known cause of hangover related symptoms. It's better to go for drinks that are lighter in color like vodka and white wine. The tell-tale sign of a drink that would be sure to make you go through an agonizing morning is the dark color. So you know what to steer clear from.

Before you step out of the house for that big party or to go clubbing with your friends, don't forget to eat your dinner. Going to clubs means taking high quantities of alcoholic drinks. That part is unavoidable. However, you can avoid being a victim to a most dreaded hangover the next morning. This can be done by eating before setting off for your night of bingeing as the food helps the body in digesting the alcohol in a much better way then if you drink on a mostly empty stomach.

You could also take pills for hangover cure if you want to totally be sure you won't be getting one. These help in flushing out the build up of toxins in your body due to a high consumption of alcohol. The ingredients are all natural and hence these have very few, if any, side effects.

Lastly, the most important tip that is also the hardest to follow. Drink in moderation. You must have a positive attitude towards your alcohol consumption keeping in mind that you are doing it to relax and not to compete with anyone over who has the most.

I'd also recommend eating to get rid of a hangover... or at least, that's what I've heard :) Some say drinking more the next day gets rid of them too ?.?
