Ghost Writing As A Means to Money?

I'll answer a quick question you are probably wondering right away. Yes, I'll talk about ghost wirting as a means to money, and the other one I'll add this right now. No, I am not doing ghost writing, as least not yet, on the other hand I've considered the possibility.

The writing isn't complex and you follow the instructions of someone else. I think that I fear that even though it is a type of writing, and in fact many people make a fair decent living on ghost writing services, I might not be a good ghost writer. By now you're probably thinking I've lost my mind, or have I?

For some this is a hard choice to make, after all you are writing for some one else, and sometimes this means that you might not even get your name on a book. You might write from the very beginning to the end, with outlining and editing included. You might simply edit a manuscript someone else wrote. You might spend a few minutes on a project or a few months, sometimes without acknowledgement. I think this is what makes people wonder if it's worth the effort to write. Ghost writing though can be a benefit since it might push your comfort zone, and pushing out of your comfort zone is important.

It doesn't mean that ghost writing or offering ghost writing services can or should be for everyone.

I looked up the concept of ghost writing services, and it seems to me, from my quick research, that ghost writing can range from writing the book from the outline onwards, to marketing plans, to business writing to arranging the book better for the newer author to write their work in a much more organized manner. This proves that ghost writing isn't simply the realm of celebrities, but of regular authors who work at their writing and understand their shortcomings. (As so aptly put, mine is editing. I'm working on that with each hub!)

Still could you make a living on ghost writing services? On simple ghost writing?

Well, the answer may be yes, many writers will offer ghost writing services as a part of their work, (See any number of blogs and website for this) and it doesn't seem to be viewed in a negative light by many people. Simply look at the many books that say by "X" as told to "Y" or "X" with "Y" this normally in mind means that "Y" was the one doing the writing. I know some that love both the work and the byline, so for them it helps to have a freelance contract that states that acknowledgment is a part of the services rendered.

With a few ghost writing services that a writer can do; this means that for some writers, they can work on their own work, at their own pace. It also can mean that the money is a more consistent stream. Writing this way doesn't mean that your name will not be passed around the writing community, it's just a bit harder.

So, how hard can this be? You will need to give some of the best work you can possibly give, as many will learn of your work through the person you've ghost written for. Relax, and being a ghost writer might make you a better writer, you can learn to take suggestions, and critiques. You are also a bit protected, it might be your aid this author took, but they get the praise, but more important to remember the complaints. Nobody really wants that.

Not all people are writers by trade, but many want to share their voices, so would you ghost write and begin a sort of ghost writing services?

It can add to your writing and to a already strong resume. Again there is that fear that you won't be published, however, you can add a clause in your contract that states that your name is located somewhere in the book. There are means to get your name out. Write about your services in a blog, I see in many blogs people do offer ghost writing services.

In the end I believe that for all the work it might take to be a ghost writer, it is something that writers, all of us, will consider what it might mean to be a ghost writer. I believe that for my own writing career this might be a way in the end, but I've not grown enough to become a great writer, but one day.

To be a ghost writer, I need a better byline or recognition to start with.

You've mentioned some things about ghost writing I certainly didn't know about, not that I would want to do it.

I'm still considering it, not something to take lightly. Ghost writing isn't easy, but still....

I've been doing some online writing and I think one of those can be classified as "ghost writing". There are also hubbers here who write freelance for a living (Sufidreamer is one), and they're doing good. Freelance writing or ghost writing or both can be quite lucrative if one puts his or her mind to it. =)

what i like the best about the hub is that it talks of the better side of Ghost writing services.

well, i began with a freelance writing career as a ghost writer. but it is not quite a thing to talk about it in your resume..i don't say this...but i have had people tell it to me. I gave it a real serious thought while i began working on it.

to be particular..i started as a freelance academic writer. that is ghost writing service where you write classroom assignments, research papers, term papers for students.

I jumped into it because it offered me a dream career(i always wanted to get into professional writing)...but little did i realize how demeaning i felt. I am an academic by profession and a research scholar...the very thought that i am writing a thesis for someone who will go on to teach students and fool them...made me feel i was committing a sin.well, that's on moral grounds. i just said to myself " i am suppose to assist students, not ghost write assignments for them" I left it. for me there's no satisfaction in a work of the kind. i do online tutoring now, something that makes me feel good.

ya! Ghost writing is very lucrative..people are ready to give any amount just to get their work done. It is a better opportunity if you do ghost blogging or s'thing. I recently got an offer to write blog posts where you have to write site reviews, assistance essays, academic essays, exam notifications and the like. I am considering this one.

thanks for writing this hub.

I think an upside to Ghostwriting would be that you could grow into your own writing style comfortably until you're ready to 'Go it' alone without the anonymity armor. Just a thought. You are most helpful as a directional beacon in this field. Many thanks.
