Make someone smile

This year I was going to have a Christmas party with a pot luck supper and a gift exchange with my girlfriends that are in town. The day after i announced my party I ran into a lady who works for a business associate of mine. I was asking her about Christmas and she started to cry. She has two young children and a husband who is in and out of work and not very helpful. I know money is tight for everyone but at Christmas we always make it stretch out to a few charities or friends in need. It seems that the people who have the least, share the most. Anyway when I asked her what size her daughter was and what she would like she said, "I'm embarrassed to say, but she needs shoes". I then thought instead of exchanging some meaningless gifts that you usually re-gift anyway, how bout adopting this family? So I put that on the invitations with ages and sizes and asked everyone to bring a gift for the children instead of each other. Then Christmas eve. morning I will have the mom pick up the gifts that will all say from Santa. We have to look for more ways to share Christmas with children who's parents are going through rough times. I always give to can and toy drives but this year we will sponsor a family and put smiles on the faces of children with gifts like clothes and shoes and things for school. Think about this concept for your Christmas party. if you invite the family it may even more fun. May peace be with you all and the meaning of Christmas be spread throughout the land.
