Ginger Tom Whole Fish Cat Food - Healthy Pet Foods? Pet Food Danger Gauge
71Pet Food Danger Gauge - Healthy Pet Foods Total Score = 26/30 - 86% Safe (Unsafe For Pets) ***Buyer Beware*** Due to such limited information from the company I feel this product rated far better than it should have.
I visited the company web site where all I could find was very sketchy information. Very little information is provided about the ingredients used to produce this pet food.
Phosphorus - (from what?) a poisonous nonmetallic chemical element that ignites in air and glows in the dark. Use: matches, fireworks, incendiary devices, fertilizers.
Iodine (from the fish or added?) can be fatal.
Iron. Overdose symptoms may include nausea, severe stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds, shallow breathing, weak and rapid pulse, pale skin, blue lips, and seizure (convulsions).
Zinc (what form?) Zinc chloride, is very dangerous for animals. - Mike Richards, DVM
Whole fish (which fish? Not all fish are good for cats)
Selected cereals (which ones? corn, wheat, and soy?)
Gelling Agent (which one?)
Sodium - Used as a preservative. Salt - If eaten in large quantities it may lead to electrolyte imbalances, severe electrolyte imbalances can lead to muscle spasm or even congestive heart failure.
Yucca Schidigera - Used to remove the odor from animal manure. Note: Manure Odor is caused by overfeeding crude protein (plant source).

Bianca,
Yucca Schidigera is the fancy name for the Yucca plant. Yucca, in itself, is not bad for your pets and is even probably good. The reason I count off for Yucca is that the pet food companies use it to help reduce the odors caused by an upset bowel.
If the pet food companies were using ingredients that were healthy for a pet the odors would not be an issue. The company is not removing the natural odor from pet manure but the extra odor caused by the toxins in the body from poor nutrients.

Our nutritionist has commented on each of the points below: Phosphorus: Butch does not use any inorganic chemical phosphorus. All phosphorus in Butch products, including Ginger Tom, is derived from meat and bone. Iodine: Unless a product is fish based, you can’t get all the necessary iodine from fish, so we add extra. Some forms of iodine can be fatal but only when ingested in very large quantities. We only add a few milligrams per batch. Iron: Overdose of Iron will cause problems but deficiency will cause severe problems as Iron is an essential mineral needed by the body. To be toxic, Iron would need to be around 50 times the usual addition rate in food. Zinc: We use Zinc chloride, which is 100% safe. (NOT Zinc chloride fume found in some aerosol sprays which may be dangerous for some sensitive animals). Fish: We use Mackerel and Tuna. Selected cereals: We use Corn. Butch products DO NOT contain Wheat, Gluten, Sugar, Yeast or Artificial Flavors. Gelling Agent: We use sea weed. Sodium: We do not use Salt as a preservative. Ginger Tom contains less than 0.3% salt. To act as a preservative we would have to use 10 times this amount. We add salt to Ginger Tom because animals need Sodium to maintain their electrolyte balances. Yucca Schidigera: It is well known that all feces have an unpleasant smell and pet owners prefer to choose pet foods which can reduce that smell. Butch Pet Foods has not been involved in any pet food recalls in its 40 year history. All of our products are manufactured in our own factory in New Zealand. We do not contract our manufacturing out to any other companies. If you have any further questions or concerns. Please let us know at butch.co.nz
So in Total, what percentage of protein is in a typical 2 kg roll of a blue label?
did anyone ever had a problem with their pets eating Butch?

What is Yucca Schidigera? I have never heard of it before. The company says that this is a source of phosphorus, iron as well?
