Unsurpassed Girls and Wonders of India
79Wonders of India
India has, since ancient times, been regarded the world over for its remarkable wonders.
The Indian sub continent has been the birthplace for some of the most ancient civilizations of the world. For more than a thousand years, the wonders of India include incredible natural beauty, with rich wildlife, the patchwork population, and the ancient historic buildings.
India evolved into a country of thriving kingdoms that were ruled by great kings and rulers patronized the arts in a liberal manner. The art and architecture of India blossomed in the ancient era, as most of the kingdoms were wealthy and were challenged by no major threat from foreign invaders for a long time.

India's Early Era...
This era (circa 2nd century BC to 10th century AD) has seen the fruition of the best examples of architecture, painting, sculpture, and developments in the other fields like astronomy, mathematics and science.
The great caves at Ajanta and Ellora, the sacred temples at Khajuraho, Mahabalipuram, the holy Buddhist Stupas, and multiple other shrines, temples, and palaces go back to this period. The cultural Gandhara and Mathura schools of art contributed in a big way towards the growth of the arts of ancient land of India.
The medieval period witnessed a major political turbulence in India. This was instigated by the invasions and threats of the Muslims from central Asia. This injected new life into the art and architecture of India with new and often radically different cultural influences which themselves gave birth to a new wave of cultural and artistic creations.
Turkish, Persian and a number of other central Asian fashions found their way into the mainstream of Indian art as well as architecture. The early Turkish and Afghan leaders of the 12th and 16th century A.D.carried with them their traditions which mixed with the already present Indian patterns to form what is called the Indo-Islamic style.
Some famous examples of this era are:The Qutb Minar, Quwwat ul Islam Mosque, and the Mehrauli complex in Delhi.
The Mughuls of the sixteenth through the 19th centuries brought about monumental advances vis-à-vis the grandeur and scale of their buildingsto name just one influence. This period also saw the building of famous palaces, forts, and mausoleums such as the Humayuns tomb, Agra Fort, Old Fort in Delhi, Fatehpur Sikri, the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort in Delhi and the pinnacled palaces at Mandu and Jaunpur. The holy temples of Dilwara, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Vijayanagar were constructed during this period as well.
The previously mentioned monuments, in particular the Taj and the other Mughul monuments showcase amazing artistry unparalleled ever since.
The 16th and 17th centuries saw the coming of the Europeans. In turn and they brought with them remarkably new architectural patterns. The British especially introduced their grand and classical European architecture, has reflected by the many buildings, palaces, houses of worship, and other British structures throughout India.
Ancient India was a land of religious pluralism including Buddhism, Hindu and Jainism.
The ancient wonders of India are largely influenced by the rituals and practices of these big three religions. The medieval era reveals a synthesis of Islamic and Hindu patterns.
The era after 17th century saw the introduction newer religions like Sikhism and Baja. The famous golden temple of Amritsar and the Lotus temple in New Delhi are examples of this.
The wonders of India also include its rich wildlife, local fairs and festivals, traditional music, complex dances, and other tourist attractions such as the opulent trains.
Altogether, they make up the fabric of Indian tourism. indeed, millions of visitors from all parts of the world arrive in India every year to partake of these wonders of India.

What does the Name 'India' Mean?
The name India is related to the word Indus, which is derived from the Old Persian nominative Hindu, from the Sanskrit Sindhu.
The Constitution of India and regular usage in Hindi also recognise Bharat as an official name.
A third appellation , هندوستان, Hindustan (Persian: Land of the Hindus), has been employed since the 12th century, although its contemporary useage is unevenly applied.
Historically, the vast landmass which we call India, was known as Bharat-Varsha, (the land of Bharata), a king well-known in Puranic tradition. This territorial mass was considered to form part of a larger unit called Jambu-dvipa; the innermost of 7 concentric island-continents into which the earth, as imagined by the Hindu cosmographers, was thought to have been divided.
The name ‘India’ was afixed to the country by the Greeks. It refers to the “Hi(n)du” of the old Persian epigraphs.such as : “Sapta sindhavah” and “Hapta Hindu”- the names of the Aryan country in the Veda.
Further, it
is derived from Sindhu (Indus), the magnificent river that constitutes the most
imposing feature of the sub-continent, which, incidentally seems to have been the
cradle of known civilization.
