Have Fun With Brain Teasers

With the start of a New Year comes the dreaded New Year resolution; eat less and exercise more. But how often do we think to exercise our brain? Giving your brain a workout with brain teasers is a whole lot more fun than physical exercise, don’t you think? So why not start your New Year with some fun brain teasers to help your brain work better, improve your memory, have greater concentration, better visual perception, mental imagery, improved reasoning and cognitive skills. Doing brain teasers are also good to keep your brain young, make you more alert, and help you to live your life more consciously?

Have you heard that the human brain loves surprises, puzzles, and challenges. That is why brain teasers can draw us in and play tricks on us, and we love it! My favorite brain teasers are the 3D stereogram eyetricks and the optical illusions. When I was a young girl I got books out from the library and practiced looking at these optical illusions alot. It is a good way to quiet your mind. They are so cool to see.

An optical illusion is any illusion that deceives the human visual system into perceiving something that is not present or incorrectly perceiving what is present.

Below are some links to give your brain a workout with some fun brain teasers and optical illusions that will feed your brain and jog your mind. Good health starts with your brain. It is one of the most vital body organs, and it needs your care and maintenance but if you’re determined to start your New Year with physical exercise, good for you, because, well that is good for the brain, too! Have fun and enjoy!

How-To View A 3-D Image

Focus your eyes near the top center of the picture as though you are looking through the image into the distance and look even further beyond the wall behind your computer. Once you perceive the hidden image and depth, you can look around the entire 3-D image. The longer you look, the clearer the illusion becomes. The farther away you are to the image, the deeper it becomes. Try it! If you still can't see the image, try moving your chair back even further. It's pretty cool to look at these 3-D images.

Here is another helpful hint if you still cannot see the 3-D image, STOP thinking! Yes, that's right. If you are thinking about doing it right then you will not be able to see the 3-D image. Practice, Practice, Practice. Good Luck!

Gah I'm terrible, never got the hang of the magic eye series.

But to illusions and the rest, I think I'm an addict, I delve through the stuff with a passion.

Great Hub!

Thoog.

Thoog, if you can get the illusions you can get the magic eye ones also. Stare into the middle of the picture. Sit back in your chair and relax. Stare way through the picture, not at it. Keep staring and don't give up. Once you get it, it gets a lot easier and these pictures are so real to life. They are cool! It takes me only 2-3 seconds to adjust my eyes but years ago I did have to practice practice practice.

thooghun profile image

No, no. I see something. It does become three dimensional. I just can't figure out what it is!

I think im seeing it in reverse because I inadvertently close my eyes.

thooghun profile image

thooghun  says:

That would be *cross* my eyes not close. The reason why I afailed would be fairly obvious otherwise!

Thoog, I don't know where your looking, but if you go to the first link I have posted, 3D stereograms, there are over 100 to choose from and they are larger to view than my picture image. Hope that helps.

Magic eye is a wonderful site. It takes practice, practice, practice. Once you decipher a few times you will be able to see the 3D image within seconds. I practiced alot from library books when I was younger. I have no problem with deciphering them now. Just like learning to ride a bike. Once you practice, practice, practice, you will never forget.

Dottie,Anything to stimulate the brain is always good! and i know someone that actually thinks they are getting smarter by playing the Sudoku games! and i think it could be true! but im not telling them!! lol

ps...They also say the brain is the biggest sexual organ:)

Dottie1 profile image

Dottie1  says:

ABC science online reported that scientists say solving sudoku puzzles depends on neural pathways that even the most powerful computers can't replicate. To crack Sudoku our brains use a unique set of neural pathways known as associative memory which enables us to discover a pattern from a partial clue.Although computers can store large amounts of information and process it at great speed, they aren't yet capable of sophisticated associative memory.

Compu-smart, like any other sex organ, your brain needs exercise to function at its best. The most powerful exercise for your mental sex organ is active imagination and memory to teach yourself to perform successfully, just as Olympic athletes do.

Did you know that fruit also stimulates the brain because of the natural sugars and so do raw carrots.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Compu-smart, I know why Pamela Anderson is on your mind. Today is her birthday and you must be working on your unpublished celebrity birthday hub for July 1st. I would have left the link but any smart hubber with a stimulated brain knows to go to search on top of this page and type in 'Famous peoples Birthdays for the 1st of July'. Dream on, from Dottie1-smart.

Fun hub! I like stereograms best. They're fun brain teasers! Did you know that photoreading is kind of based on the whole stereogram thing? Your eyes have to cross just like they do when looking at a stereogram (or you can just back away from them.)

ProCW

PS. I wonder if ebay or amazon sells the photoreading stuff... :) Again, fun hub!

Dottie1 profile image

Dottie1  says:

ProCW thanks for the info. I never heard of photoreading but I did check it out today. Photoreading works with the subconcious mind which can handle a staggering 20,000 pieces of information compared to the conscious mind which can only handle seven pieces of information at a time and thats the difference between regular reading and photoreading. Amazon has photoreading books and ebay has the photoreading whole mind system. Thanks for stopping by and enjoying the hub.

Great hub! I really like the optical illusions; especially the ones that use positive and negative space. However, I can never get the 3D ones. I remember going to the mall, and there was this one where you were supposed to see a boat. I just kept staring at it and nothing! lol I just tried the 3D link above and still nothing.

Maybe I just don't have the patience for it. Wonder if something like this can also be used as a Zen type mental exercise to get someone into a meditative/relaxed state.

Take a digital pic....that would work, G-Ma!

It's not enough to do just one kind of brain exercise.  One kind is equivalent of doing only pushups...so your arms may get strong but what about the rest of you?

Other good brain exercises would be computing numbers in your head instead of using a calculator or doing one of those computer games designed to enhance brain function.

Thanks for the Hugs G-Ma.  I'm always glad when you visit! :)
