Giving Books as Gifts
68Book Giving with BAFAB
Books are one of my favorite gift ideas, not only for kids, but also for adults. Being a former teacher, I am always eager to give books that will encourage kids to read more.
For adults, I usually only give books if I know that the book will be read. If the adult has little likelihood of actually reading the book I give them, I will opt for a different type of gift, because I really believe an unread book is a truly sad thing.

When do I give Books for Presents?
Not only do I like the idea of BAFAB, but I like giving books for all occasions as well. Just last week, for Valentines, I gave all my kids books.
Why Give a Child a Book?
Some of my favorite memories involve having books read to me by my mother. The past-time of book reading, has been passed down to my children as well. Today, my kids more frequently than not, will request that I read from any number of books before they can go to sleep. When I give a book to my kids, it is not only a book, it is a promise that I will be spending time with them reading the new book and discovering the world that lies within its wonderful pages.
When you give a child a book, it shows them that you value books, and this encourages kids to become readers.
In summary, if you are so inclinded join BAFAB, and give a friend a book for no good reason. If you have youngsters, please consider giving books for any and all of your gift giving occasions.

Very true. I usually only give books if I know the person pretty well.
I actually gave books to my kids for Easter rather than candy, but I took them to the store and had them pick them out.

I think it is a good idea to find out what sort of books someone likes before you buy them a book. I have been given books that I have tried really hard to read because I want to please the person who has given it to me - but the book has been of no interest.
