Reflections of This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time when friends and family come together and everyone is busy cooking their favorite goodies, Thanksgiving is also a time when others less fortunate are worried about getting another meal. This past year has been a reflection for our family and I am certain for others as we watched our neighbors lose their homes, lose their jobs, or their families dissolve from all of the stress and happenings that were placed before them. We have seen weather at its worst and the gas prices rise, we have lost some of our famous and have watched as isolated incidents of hate crimes have popped up across our nation, California continues to burn and we have watched weather change due to global warming, but still we all will bring friends and family together to enjoy a few good laughs , and some great food and many of us will store all of the issues that we have endured this past year in the back of our minds. Here is what I ask from every hubber on HubPages

1. Pray for the less fortunate, from the homeless to your neighbors who lost their homes take one minute and pray. If you do not believe in God , talk to someone about it and think about them for just a minute.

2. Pray for our military and their families that God keeps them safe this holiday season and if you don't believe in God then talk about it.

2. If you know someone who is going to be alone, invite them for dinner with you Don't leave them by themselves. If they pass on dinner, at least they will know that someone thought about them.

3. If you lost neighbors who lost their homes and you have their numbers or addresses call them or e-mail them and let them know how important they are and were to you. Give them some positive reassurance if necessary as many of our families this holiday season have taken it pretty hard.

4. Buy an extra turkey, cranberry , bread, etc. donate to your Food Banks as we all know many have tight budgets this season, but one extra turkey or even an entire meal will not harm us.

5. If you are alone and would like to give back contact your local organizations as you just may be able to lend a helping hand.

6. If you have children HUG THEM and let them know how much you love them , as children hurt too when their best friend has to move. If you can reach those same people , see if their best friend can stay over as kids maybe be resilient but there sadness can run deep.

Final Word: If you and your family have been part of this economic downturn, you are not alone and we are all here for you. We will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers and if you by chance have that old neighbor's number and are to afraid to call , give it a shot as you may be surprised but they would be certainly happy to hear from you. Don't be ashamed of what has happened as us have been effected somehow by the faltering economy. If you wish to just e-mail personally and get it off your chest instead of commenting , you are welcome to do so, as I will not ever share your information. Sometimes it is good to just talk to someone but no matter what you do , find someone to spend the holiday with, or get involved.

As a country we will get through this financial crisis , but it is going to take all of us to help bring this nation that we call our home back together as a President can only do so much.

Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate itand if you don't then have a memorable day.

Great hub...you know i was just thinking as i read your hub..That this year..Cynthia and I got married feb26. Cynthia was laid of April,Then cracked her ribs, her graves sickness came back, She misscarried about 2 weeks ago at her 4th month and my business has died a death and now by faith we are moving to Bend and all this to say I have never felt closer to her and to God than right now. When the our baby daughter Illianna Died a friend let us have his beach house for a week and we buried her by a tree on the beach. And yet through all this my hope in God is getting stronger...Did I question God ? you Bet!  Did it make me want to pack up and quit NO! Actually it makes me want to praise and thank God for a really great year :0)

So yes I,m very Thankfull and growing deeper in to the true meaning of Love this year:):):):):)

Love in Jesus Mike :0)

Mike, Congratulations on getting married!!! You have such a positive outlook considering all that has happened. You are like Job and in the end due to all of your faith, God will Bless you and your wife ten fold. If only others would take the lead, keep their faith and give thanks ,life would be so much different for so many, thank you for sharing your story and putting your heart out there.

God Bless

Great hub and ideas,

Some of my best memories have been the joy of having widows and single college students at our home for Sunday dinner. Not just on Thanksgiving, but all through the year. I know some widows who thought I belonged to them instead of to my wife. I knew single college students who loved us and always greeted us with smiles when they saw us.

Yes, we were poor, but we were so rich.

2 Corinthians 6:10 as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things. NKJV

2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. NKJV

Thank you for a great hub. ~ eddie

Eddie and Barbie, Thank you for your thoughts and blessings as it is not what a person has in their bank account that makes them wealthy, it is what they do for others in God's name. You can be wealthy and be empty or you can be poor and be full. Thanks again God Bless :)

Good times and on the other had sad time for so many. This is a good hub reaching out to those less fortunate.

And I agree about what wealth is ..it certainly is not money. There is nothing more beautiful than doing a good deed for someone and watching the smile that reflects back to you. That is a wealthy person ..that you can take with you!

Thank you for sharing ..My best to you and an early Happy Thanksgiving!
