Open Up Your Office Space with a Glass Desk
68The economy being what it is, people are being forced into much tighter situations in various aspects of their lives that they have never had to deal with before. Many businesses are downsizing and forcing staff to share quarters so that they can save money on rent. Other businesses are now sharing offices with companies so that they can split the costs and of course there is also unemployment to think of. If you are one of the unlucky ones, you may be running a home business to try and make ends meet.
When all of these situations come about, office space can tend to look very crowded and sloppy. You have a bunch of bulky furniture in small quarters and it is enough to give you a panic attack if you are claustrophobic. There are a few things that you can do to alleviate this situation and one of them is to get a glass desk.
When you are restricted to tight spaces, glass desks are a great way to break up the room. While they may still take up the same space, they give an appearance of taking up less because you can see through them. No longer the big bulky metal table, or heavy Pine Desks, the room opens up and will actually have an all around better aura about it.
Of course, having a glass desk is not the only thing that you are going to have to do to open this space up a little bit. Look at how things are being stored. In many cases, you can add more vertical storage to the office to alleviate long lines of cabinets. Take those two small filing cabinets and place them on top of each other. 2 sq. ft. might not seem like much, but when you see how open the room is, it makes a huge difference.
When you are consolidating offices, you also need to consolidate supplies. There is no need to have two large trash cans taking up all of the space. One can in the middle will do the job. You may have to make an extra run to empty it every now and again, but that is a great excuse to stretch your legs and take a break.
You may also find that there is not quite enough room for all of the extras that you had to yourself in your old office. Things like a fax machine, copier and any other type of bulky item that you can think of. Someone needs to get on the phone with their clients and let them know that you have a new fax number because both of you need to share the same one. Better yet, talk to the boss and see if you can get an area outside of your office to set up the machine and several people can use it.
Nobody likes to give up their space. However, the current economy dictates that sacrifices must be made. While you may not like it, you can make the situation a little more tolerable by following some of these tips. A glass desk and consolidation can go a long way into making that cramped space a little more livable.
