Global Warming is Real

What to think about the climate change debate?
For anyone trying to figure out who is "right" in all the shouting about global warming, it can get downright discouraging. Is it the end of the world as we know it? Is it the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on mankind? And why do some of the people in the "debate" seem so angry and even hateful toward others whose opinions they might not agree with?
As much as some might wish it, the issue is not going away. The good news is that you don't necessarily need to figure out who is "right," but can determine which risk is the better one to take - at each end of the spectrum, doing nothing about climate change and risking environmental upheaval or addressing global warming and risking economic upheaval.
A good place to start is with the video below. This is the first in a series of videos designed to explain how best to think about risk management, science, climate change, and how to approach the issue and determine what action, if any, we should take.
There may be some on both sides of the issue that think such a reasoned approach favors too much the "other side." They want to keep shouting and "bully" people into believing there own cherished positions. Bullying rarely works. If you really want to get a handle on the debate and aren't sure how to do it, I recommend this video series.
Also including is reading from my blog GlobalWarmingisReal (I just gave away my bias), along with some links to good books about climate change, energy, and sustainabiltiy. I'll continue to add resources to this Hubb that I think will help people better understand climate change, or at least offer a jumping off point to find out more.

- Bahrain's GPIC Launches Middle East's First Advanced Carbon Capture System
Bahrain's Gulf Petrochemical Industries Co. (GPIC) commissioned one of the world's largest and the Middle East's first carbon capture system at its Sitra petrochemical complex yesterday. The $55 million system should be able to capture as much as or more than 90%–some 450 metric tons per day–of the CO2 produced by the complex's oil refinery. Absorbed from flue gas, the captured carbon dioxide will then be used to synthesize methanol and urea, according to an Arab News report. - Solar CITIES Water Heaters, Biogas Digesters Help Cairo Poor; Face Uphill Struggle for Adoption
Solar panels and bio-gas units made primarily from recycled materials and installed on building roofs in one of the poorest and most populous neighborhoods of Cairo are helping residents cut their energy bills, greenhouse gas emissions and waste, according to a report by IPS's Cam McGrath. One family man told McGrath that two solar panels and a biogas unit on his roof has lowered his monthly utility bill by almost 50%.
