Globe WiMax -Second Review
79Two Months After
This is the second month of our subscription with Globe WiMax and honestly while the speed test I got tonight seems like I have been getting more than what we subscribed for - 1Mbps - this is only good if you got the connection. What does this mean? Globe will likely deliver the speed but the real issue here is the consistency and reliability. The is no single day that we have not experienced loss of signal. Reliability seems to be the issue.
Imagine yourself downloading or uploading and in the middle of the process you lose the connection. It has happened not once but daily. So if you need a steady stream of data for your application say for FTP transfers and VOIP, there is no doubt that Globe will deliver the speed but be prepared for occasional and daily loss in connection. Sometimes this lasts a while and you have to be patient and wait until you get reconnected. It is not even an issue of our distance to the cell site, our house will just be around 300 meters away from the tower. It is a good thing we still have the crappy DSL connection from another provider. I use this for my FTP needs.
I can only speculate that Globe wanted to roll out the program ahead of time and while they have the technical expertise in wireless communication, there are other factors left out for consideration. Upload speeds have been very bad lately. I used to get an even faster upload speed than my download and we were amazed initially. That was until they apparently made adjustments to the system.
August Speed Test
Note the speed test I got when we subscribed with Globe. The result posted were among the best I got days after the subscription. I have no complains here. Speed for both downloads and uploads were great. Just the same we were already having major disconnections here. It is that good only, of course, when you are connected. Notice that uploads speed were far better than anything we have tested before.
September Speed Test
Notice the changes in download more so with upload speeds. There was a dramatic reduction here. I noticed that a few weeks after installation. there may have been adjustments made by Globe. This has a dramatic impact in my VOIP connection. I was no longer getting the clear and crisp audio that I used to get.
To sum it up. Globe, ability to deliver a great service is possible. They will however have to address the reliability issues. Speed test will show that they really can. And while these tests are sometimes relative to prevailing conditions like traffic load, and sometimes weather too, it has shown that if only a steady and reliable stream and connection is maintained then one can achieve customer satisfaction. I just hope they will address this.
