Glytone is a large series of skin care products from Genesis Pharmaceuticals. The main active ingredient of Glytone is neutral glycolic acid, which is a type of alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) that has been clinically proven to remove the top layer of dull dead skin cells. Glycolic acid has very tiny molecule makeup and thus can easily penetrate deep under our skin to exfoliate dead skin which makes our skin complexion looks dry and dull. Some people do experience temporary sun sensitivity after using Glytone products because the removed dead skin cells do offer some bit of sun protection.

Alpha hydroxyl acids such as Glytone's glycolic acids are commonly used in cosmetic chemical peels. Because of the mild risk of skin burns associated, only approved cosmetologists can use Glytone products with glycolic acid concentration between 20% to 30% while doctors can use Glytone Glycolic Acid In-Office Treatments containing up to 70% concentration of AHA acids. Cosmetic skin exfoliation products that are available off the shelf in malls contain only less than 10% AHA. Although special care and training is required to use high potency 30% to 70% Glytone peels, they can erase wrinkles and remove scars from the skin. Their effects are also more long lasting, typically between 2 to 5 years, compared to other Glytone products with less than 30% glycolic acids. However, high concentration Glytone chemical peels can easily cause skin irritation such as severe redness and flaking skin that take weeks to disappear. The mid range 10% to 20% Glytone Step Up kits and chemical peels can produce anti aging effects similar to microdermabrasion, such as erasing fine wrinkles and smoothening the skin appearance but these Glytone treatments must be repeated every few months to upkeep their results.

The Glytone Salicylic Acid In-Office Treatment contains salicylic acids, which is the one and only form of beta hydroxyl acid. Compared to the water soluble AHAs, beta hydroxyl acids are oil soluble (lipid). The Glytone Salicylic Acid In-Office Treatment can be used on oily skin with heavy sebum production to exfoliate dead skin cells trapped inside the skin pores. This makes it very effective for people with acne, blackheads and whiteheads which often cannot find a suitable skin peel solution. For daily usage, you can buy the Glytone Essential Prep toner which contains 1% salicylic acid.

Although the Glytone skin care series contains a lot of different skin care products containing expensive glycolic acids, you need not spend a fortune on buying the entire Glytone collection. For example, the Glytone Daily Facial Cleanser contains 5.9% glycolic acid but these must be fully absorbed by the skin in order to exfoliate dead cells. You are not supposed to leave the cleansing foam on your skin long enough before the glycolic acids are absorbed. On the other hand, the Glytone Ultra Heel and Elbow Cream contains 29.5% free glycolic acid and works very well on dry and coarse skin with a thick layer of dead skin cells on our elbows, knees, ankles, heels etc. The Glytone Body Lotion is another good choice that contains a milder 17.5% glycolic acid formulation to use all over our bodies to erase rough and rejuvenate uneven skin. In short, if you have budget constraints, get the Glytone lotions and avoid the cleansers.

Many people have good results with the Glytone Ultra Heel and Elbow cream on a number of skin problem areas. For example, you can use them on the dry, rough and dark skin patches on the elbows, heels, ankles, knees etc. After you apply the Glytone skin care products, you get a silky film on your skin that does not feel sticky at all. Glytone does not rub off easily, so you need not worry about wasting it with accidental contact. You should be able to feel a significant difference in the skin appearance and texture within a few days of using Glytone skin care products on the problem areas. They should start to look and feel like the rest of your smooth and supple skin.

Glycolic acid is known to stimulates collagen production and strengthen elastic fibers under our skin to remove wrinkles and fine lines. The overall results of using Glytone products are a more youthful and radiant skin appearance. An advantage of Glytone skin care products compared to other brands of AHA skin care products is that Glytone uses neutral glycolic acid which is more readily absorbed into the skin. Glytone skin care products are only available through physicians because of their higher levels of glycolic acid compared to over the counter glycolic products with lowered glycolic acid and AHA content. If discomfort occurs after you apply any Glytone products, take a photo of the affected area with your cell phone camera, wash off the Glytone lotions and consult your doctor for advice.
