Which Way Do I Go?

Road Map

Planning a vacation

Could you imagine getting ready for vacation and just jumping in the car with no preconceived plans or thoughts? I would guess that most reading this blog would answer "no" to that question. Getting into a car and turning the key would be foolish to say the least, without some sort of plan.

Things

When taking a trip

When we get ready for a trip, not only do we need a "road map," but we need to guesstimate on how much gas, money, clothing and etc that we need to take along.

Most people will make a list, checking it at least twice, determining whether they've been naughty or nice. Oh, that's from a different story all together.

My point is this; we need to be prepared for the trip!

Blindfold

First Things First

Before setting out to do anything we need to have a game plan, otherwise it would be like driving with a blind fold on.

Setting goals

When you set out to do something you need to have a game plan, as I said earlier. Most people, especially in sales, set out each and every month, not knowing what they plan on doing! That might sound alarming, but it's true. If you were to ask a typical salesperson how many vehicles they were going to sell for a given month, most wouldn't be able to answer. The replies I often get are; "It depends on how much traffic we have," or “if we had a show going on I might do..."

The best way to reach a target is to set a goal! Goals are the building blocks for sales success, so if we want to be successful we need to set goals.

S.M.A.R.T. Goals

Goals are important for sure, but more importantly it's how you set your goals that will make a difference.

Goals should be what is called a S.M.A.R.T. goal. Below is a list of how this kind of goal is made up.

1. Specific - You need to be specific and avoid any tendencies of being vague. The more specific you are, the more likely you will hit your target.

2. Measurable - A goal isn't a goal unless you can chart your progress during the month. You must be able to track your goal on a chart.

3. Attainable - Your goals must be attainable. If they are too far out there, you will give up long before you even try.

4. Realistic - A realistic goal is something you are able to, and have the desire to work towards. If your goal involves something you have no desire to achieve, you will never hit your target.

5. Timely - All goals should have a time line. That is, they must have a definite beginning and end. When you set your goals, you determine the time frame that you intend on reaching your goals.

Along with setting SMART goals, you will need to have the right mindset and attitude. Below are 3 videos from the master "Zig Ziglar," enjoy!
