It's all About Choices, Not Speeches
Well, for sure, he is mentally ill. He is only 4 yrs older than me, served his country, as I did, came back from the service and got a few degrees. He is not of the same era as MLK, so he did have some advantages due to the passage of the racial legislation of the 60's. He most likely suffered, possibly some kind of razing while he was in the Marines.
He left after a 2 yr tour to join the Navy and then worked as a cardio-pulmonary technician. We all know what a tour in the Marines will do to a minority. Definitely screw around with your head, your soul and maybe, your physical body. Remember Demi-Moore's G.I Jane?
J.P. Lendry says "he is a Louis Farrakhan clone trying to pass himself and his Church off as Christian. It appears that Obama and Oprah bought it." Personally, I think Afro-Americans have had it "easier" than women of any color in the U.S. The ERA has still not been ratified, after 30 yrs. To a certain extent, Geraldine Ferraro was right. She just said it the wrong way.
But let's return to the subject, which is his rabble-rousing rhetoric. He's certainly not a nominee for the Nobel Prize, which was awarded to Dr. King. And, rightly so. His hate-mongering has no place in theology.
I'm reminded of Adolf Hitler who used the backward symbol of the Swastika and the perverted ideology of Aryanism to justify his agenda. Now, in the case of Adolf, there was a history of childhood abuse and failure in his artistic career that spurned his "frenzied politics." However, Dr. Wright had the opportunity to earn several academic degrees and has enjoyed a fruitful career.
I have to conclude that he sends out his hateful message because it attracts those who have not had the opportunities that he's had. What he does not understand, and this is surprising, for someone who has a degree in theology, is "karma." I would think that any Black minister in this country would want to seriously study the journey of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, who was a student of Mahatma Ghandi, who was, in turn a disciple of Paramahamsa Yoganandana.
So, yes, Dr. Wright is still caught up in a "static" view of the universe. I'm reminded of Sigmund Freud who saw everything as being caused by childhood sexuality; and he himself was obsessed with cigar smoking to the point that he had half of his mandible removed and committed suicide due to the pain.
He has the same astrological profile as Dr. Wright, obsessed and fixated with the past. So, the question is; do you become the disciple of such a person? Unfortunately, Senator Obama was abandoned callously by his father and, I'm afraid has spent much of his life in search of a father figure. We know of Frank Marshall, writer and known communist, who was Senator Obama's childhood mentor. Now we have Dr. Wright. Both shady caracters.
And, I'm afraid, we have to come to the conclusion that Senator Obama is simply too fragile psychologically, and can come under the influence of strong domineering personalities. Not a good characteristic of a commander-in-chief.
I can think of so many better role models, like Dick Gregory, Dr. Cornell West, Dexter Scott King. Chicago's a big place. Surely Senator Obama had other choices.

I did read your hub. Anyone can hang a picture. But can one follow the teachings? I once went to the library at Boston University that has Dr. King's PhD thesis. i read it. Although he was not a Hindu by any means and certainly not a vegetarian, Dr. King did extract one important principle from mahatma Ghandi's teachings: non violent resistance. Even that "spiritual" practice is deficient, because it seeks political action and spirituality and politics are not meant to co-exist. Mahatma Ghandi, it is true, was somewhat of a disciple of Paramahamsa Yoganandanda, but I don't think using fasting and other means of passive resistance are not spirituality. Even Ghandi was essentially a lawyer who used non violence as a means of opposition to the status quo, that cast Indians as "inferior". And, historically, it did bring down the British Empire. But it also resulted in the assassination of Mahatma Ghandi. The true spiritual guru has nothing to do with politics.
