God Is Sovereign

It is so easy to slip back in our mentality when it comes to God's sovereignty during times of political campaigning and elections. Even though (at this time) we don't know the outcome of this election, God certainly does. In Jeremiah 27:5 He states this: "I have made the earth, the men and the beasts that are upon the face of the earth by My great power and by My outstretched arm and I give it to whomever it seems right and suitable to Me."

While we feel we are free to do what we please (and we do have freedom of choice), God is still sovereign. He limits the power and authority of all government, business, and religious leaders. Romans 13:1b also states: "There is no authority except from God (by His permission, sanction and those that exist do so by God's appointment." (See also Daniel 4:17; 15; 34-35)

God has a purpose for whomever He grants to be placed into positions of authority. Just study the history of Israel which can help us to understand how God used various leaders as His instruments in Israel's life to accomplish His purposes.

So, if that is the case, does this mean we sit back and do nothing? Absolutely not! Our voting and standing for righteousness is an indispensable part of our Christian citizenship. We are encouraged to pray for those in authority (1 Timothy 2:1,2), to be submitted to authority (Titus 3:1)....all a part of our Christian citizenship. And right now it is critical we be praying as well as repenting for ANY sins of disobedience in our lives.

Who knows....perhaps the outcome of what God does will be determined by just that. "If my people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their (Who?...His people called by His Name) evil ways (any act of disobedience from His Word is an evil way)...THEN I will hear from heaven (prayers of repentance is what He will hear), forgive their sin and heal their land."

2 Chronicles 7:13,14

Da 4:17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

Your Scripture is one of several that God's people need to have their eyes opened to. It's not always about our comfort and go on as we always have.
