The 66th annual Golden Globe Awards, which were announced in the early morning hours of Thursday, December 11, 2008 in a Beverly Hills hotel by organizer, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes have two categories for best picture, one for musicals or comedies and the other for dramas.

Indian Music Director of global repute, A.R.Rahman, has won a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Score for his music in British director Danny Boyle's uplifting underdog tale "Slumdog Millionaire". This film has also scored three more nominations, i.e. for Best Picture-Drama, for Best Director (Boyle) and for Best Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy) for the 2008 Golden Globe Awards, awarded by the Hollywoood Foreign Press Association.

Rahman told news reporters that he had done the music for this film in two to three weeks. He said he is happy to hear about all these nominations. "Slumdog Millionaire", set and shot in Mumbai, India, has also won the Cinematography prize from The New York Film Critics' Circle.

Golden Globe Awards given out every year are watched for their impact on Hollywood's Oscar race; but the nominations on Thursday gave no clear indication of award season leader. 'Revolutionary Road', 'The Reader' and 'Slumdog Millionaire' earned four nominations each.

The 66th Golden Globe Awards will be presented on Sunday, January 11, 2009, at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, broadcast live by NBC television, at 8.00 p.m. ET.
