61First Tee Jitters for my first post
If you have golfed, you know the feeling...The first tee jitters!
I have golfed for over twenty-nine years with some rounds being more important than others for a wide variety of reasons and have learned a fews ways to deal with this inevitable feeling that I would like to share with you.
Some fellow golfers I have discussed this "first tee" topic with, describe the feeling as quite subtle, while others just cannot wait to get rid of this paralyzing feeling.
Would you agree, that the first tee can set the tone for the entire round? The last thing you want is tension in your body during the golf swing.
First I suggest that you have club, your ball, glove, and tee in hand before even approaching the first tee. Get these things out as you strap your bag to the cart. Most golfers get these things out after arriving at the tee blocks. You have now captured a few moments to close your eyes and focus on your surroundings and more importantly, your feelings and converting the negative emotions.
Make a mental note of the emotions and the intensity of those emotions. Now focus on the emotion while massaging each forearm and wrist. Use firm pressure.
Next, tap the back of each hand a number of times while focusing on how easy it is to drive the ball by making sure that the tempo of your backswing, drive, and follow through are exactly the same as your practice swing and no faster or harder.
This technique may sound a bit odd, but you have nothing to lose. No one will know that you are doing anything differently, but they will notice an improvement in your drive.
Experience that " Life is Gooooood Feeling" the first time you try this and you will dispel the fact that it takes 21 or 30 days to create a habit. Do not try to explain what just happened until after the round to the rest of your group, Just let them believe you got lucky.
Let me know if this helps or you have other ideas for approaching the "First Tee Jitter"
