Healthy Eating

Obesity and food related medical problems have been hitting the headlines considerably in the past few months, along with the importance of a healthy diet and daily exercise.

For food lovers it has been mainly bad news, because all of the food that we love the taste of so much seems to be on the hit list of the media and the medical practitioners, and everything food that is bland and tasteless is what we are being force fed by the same sources.

It isn't all bad news though because some of the foods that are considered to be bad for you do actually contain a lot of goodness vitamins and minerals and of course they taste great too.

Bacon

Bacon was recently in the headlines because of claims that it is a carcinogenic food and linking it to bowel cancer, but it has a lot less fat in it these days than it used to have and it contains protein, vitamin B1 for energy release, zinc and selenium which both help to boost your immunity system.

Cut off the fat and grill the bacon rather than fry.

Pizza

Although containing high levels of saturated fat , salt, and calories eating pizza can help protect against oral and colon cancer, thanks to the tomato's which contain a substance called lycopene that stops tumors growing.

Choose a traditional thin crust pizza rather than deep pan avoid pepperoni or four cheese toppings and opt for vegetable toppings instead.

French fries

Recent tests have shown that French fries contain less than half the fat than was originally thought.

Smaller portions refrain from salt and dab with kitchen paper before serving.

Chocolate

Dark chocolate helps control diabetes lowers blood pressure, and reduces chronic fatigue. It can also boost your libido, and contains tannins which help prevent tooth decay.

Store chocolate in the fridge, it will take longer to melt in your mouth so that you get double the pleasure and are tempted to eat less.



Beverages,Wines Beer and Spirits

Cola

Coke was originally marketed as a health drink and colas do have a healthy side despite the sugars and fat, it has been used to relieve the symptoms of upset stomach and the caffeine in cola improves endurance and increases the amount of fat burned during exercise.

Choose the diet options they are calorie free if you are trying to lose weight.

Vodka

Contains less of the chemicals that give you a hangover than most other drinks, it also contains less calories than beers.

Low calorie mixers are the way to go or fruit juice which you can count towards your five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Whisky

Whisky in small doses helps to prevent heart disease, strokes and cataracts, it may also help against cancer because of the ellagic acid it contains.

Don't binge drink or all of the benefits will be lost.

Coffee

Coffee has been linked to lowering the risk of developing diabetes, liver disease and skin cancer according to recent studies.

Avoid coffee with a lot of cream and if you take milk use half fat.

Sparkling wine

Wine can help prevent heart disease because of its effect on chemicals in the blood associated with diseased arteries.

Less is more a small glass of wine rather than a bottle.

Red wine

This is probably the best alcohol for you, it contains antioxidants that can reduce the risk of cancer, heart disease, and the risk of stroke,it may also guard against diabetes and Alzheimer's but only in moderation.

Limit your temptation get a mini bottle rather than the full size.

Beer

A glass of beer helps maintain strong and healthy bones, because of the silicon in it, drinking beer in moderation can lower your risk of stroke.

Drink brands with a lower alcohol content.

Guinness

Guinness helps to reduce blood clotting that leads to heart attacks.

Guinness is a good option because you feel fuller after a glass than with beer.


Moderation

Moderation is the key, too much of a good thing can as always defeats the purpose and becomes a bad thing for your health and fitness, you can party with the best of them but stick to your limits and your body wont suffer any serious consequencies.

There was a time when I drank Vodka, but that was long time ago.I like the dark chocolate and the sparkling wine, eat Moderate bacon.

Don't like pizzas, but eat them as the family like them. There is only one night a month.

Still have some health concerns. Not fat very thin.

I dont like pizza but I do like coke cola I stop drink it thow because I cant have caffine.
