A hobby you develop as a child has a profound impact on your life even as an adult. Hobbies can be the first teachers for many of life's lessons. If you are collecting some thing as a hobby, it may be coins, stamps or whatever else interests you, you learn many things along the way.

You learn to see where new stock is available. Then you learn to bargain for a good price that fits in with your meager resources. You learn to trade duplicates by negotiating well for them. A number of skills which will come in handy if you should choose to make a career in the corporate world.

Reading

The book is capable of improving the child's vocabulary, general knowledge and overall awareness of the world. Many studies have established that readers do better than non readers in school work and exams.

Arts and Crafts

Drawing, sketching and painting are great for a child to explore his creativity. The blank page can be an inspiration for many a creative genius. Woodwork and crafts are also a great way for teaching kids the importance of using your own hands to create something from nothing.

Collections

Be it stamps, coins, baseball cards, model cars, ships, action figures, dolls, or what ever else interests your child, a collection is a great way to learn about people and places. Important events and even all the social skills I mentioned earlier.

Music

This may not be ideal for all kids as some people are naturally more musical than others. Yet if you kid enjoys singing or dancing, they can become great hobbies. Even learning a musical instrument is an option. This is also a good way to reinforce the discipline and commitment needed to complete the hobby.

Sports and Games

Outdoor sports and indoor games are equally good for the complete development of a child's personality. While speed, skill and teamwork are needed in one set, alertness, intelligence and quick thinking are practised with the other. A good hobby for any kid.
