I've heard these all my life...My dad loved to throw them out when they're least expected....

But forget about the penny...It's a lie....I found a penny, picked it up, and as always said, "a penny for good luck." HA!! My luck I received? A broken knee, when my foot slipped on a rock, baried in snow, and when I lost my footing, I landed on that same rock, my foot slipped on breaking my knee...Oh for the good ol' days, lol!!!

Yes, I too picked up a "penny for good luck" it was on heads too and my kneecap dislocated. So it doesn't matter to me when I see a penny I pick it up whether or not it is on heads or tails. lol
