Suggestions for a wise tattoo choice

I have three tattoos, and I really only DON'T regret one of them. Since a tattoo is something you'll have on your body for the rest of your life, it's important to be sure you choose something that's not only aesthetically pleasing, but something that actually means something to you. I know a few people who got their children's or wife's names tattooed on them, but I do NOT recommend it. While it's someone you will most likely love forever, words on the body are just not something that look good or mean anything to anyone else who sees them. Not only that, but things change. People get divorced, split up, etc and you don't want someone's name on your body forever who you'd rather get out of your mind for good!

As for design choices, think of things in your life that mean something significantly to you. Or, you can think of a favorite animal, place, or color that is dear to your heart. It's key to remember that while you can always walk into just about any tattoo shop and pick out a flash design from the books that crowd these places, you can also submit your own design that you've picked out or drawn. The technology used in tattoo parlors today allows people to give the artists anything they want, and a special machine can "scan" the picture you submit, making an exact outline which is then transferred onto your body. That means you no longer have to just choose a tribal sun or an angry dragon out of a catalog of pictures, but instead you can bring in original artwork to use.

Where you get the tattoo is also important. Remember that you might change jobs later or certain parts of your body age a little differently and could stretch over time. The upper arms are popular since they can be covered by sleeves, and the lower back is popular with women as well as the ankle. It's really a matter of choice, but a good idea is to maybe tape the picture of the tattoo you want onto different areas of your body just so you can get a visual image of what it might look like when it's applied.

The real key to picking out the best tattoo is to go with your heart. Draw out some things, print out tons of pictures and then eliminate them slowly, and pick out color palettes. The key to any tattoo is remembering that unless you want to pay for painful, expensive laser removal later on, this will be an everlasting symbol of your personal identity, style, and taste as well as what you believe in. Good luck!

This was extremely helpful. I especially like taping the design to the body part. That's a great idea. Thanks!
