Stretch marks are simply scars that have been formed on the body - in particular the abdomen. This results from the dermis layer of our skin being stretched too much. These stretch marks can be often found on the thighs, legs and buttocks also. On average, 80% of all women which are pregnant have them after they have had their baby. There are ways of preventing stretch marks if done so the right way. I am not saying they are unavoidable, but certain things can be done to minimize the effect of overstretching the skin. Even though stretch marks come naturally from genetics, the largest reason why people get these striped scars is because their skin is no longer elastic enough to keep the skin in place properly.


Lots of women get it, but they ignore the fact that they have it and hope for it to go away; it usually doesn’t. Only when the marks start to darken is when women take action to preventing stretch marks coming in the future, and by that time there is nothing that can be done about it. Permanent stretch marks can be healed by using laser surgery or other invasive techniques.

It is possible to prevent stretch marks from forming if people take early action when they start to take on weight especially during pregnancy. The best time to remove stretch marks is a few months after pregnancy has finished. If it is ignored, then it is likely that the stretch marks will stay for good. There are few methods which people can take in preventing stretch marks for the future. Here are some ways to stop them from happening.

  • Drinking lots of fluids (especially water). Roughly ten glasses of fluid should be drunk every day for the skin to be hydrated.
  • Eating lots of food which contains a lot of vitamin E. Vitamin E capsules should also be taken if you have a special dietary requirement.
  • Massaging the areas which may have stretch marks with natural oils like olive and lavender.
  • Ensuring that the skin is exfoliated. Also put on a lot of moisturizer after each session to keep the skin healthy.
  • Try not to create too much stress and get too angry. Even there has been no direct correlation proven, it does slow down the rate at which collagen is made, so it can turn out to be quite a good way to preventing stretch marks.
  • Often use anti striae creams which are natural and on a regular basis.
