Google Basics for Wordpress

Many people who are new to Wordpress have enough to figure out without adding the task of trying to figure out to get their site noticed by Google. The easiest way to have your site noticed by Google is to install both the Google Analytics plugin and the Google XML sitemaps plugin. A sitemap is basically just a way of telling Google about your site and the pages within it. This is especially important when your site is new. It's kind of like telling Google, "Hello! I'm new here...check me out!".

The analytics plugin will help you look at the statistics of your website once you do have a little traffic. I know the analytics may not seem interesting, but finding out which search terms people used to get to your site is a HUGE benefit! If your site is about Wordpress for example and someone does a search on fun Wordpress themes...(maybe you did a post on it)..you may look at your analytics account and realize you have a lot more to add on the topic, which may increase your traffic. But you'll never know if you haven't installed these plugins. The great thing about Wordpress 2.7 is that you can install the plugins from your Dashboard! No more ftp! Not sure what I mean by this? Let me show you here then http://thewordpresschick.com/teleseminars/

The great thing about Wordpress is that once you have the theme looking the way you want and the initial plugins installed that you need, the rest is smooth sailing! But make sure you keep up with it and continue playing around. The new 2.7 Dashboard is easier than ever- but it's also easy to forget how you did something if the last time you posted was a month ago.
