Google Chrome OS - Google's new operating system
62What is Google Chrome OS?
Google Chrome OS is a new Google operating system expected to be unveiled and shipped out to consumers in 2010. The idea behind the browser is for Google to move further into technology markets to compete with Microsoft's Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Google Chrome OS will be a linux-based operating system and it is supposed to help surf the web quicker. It's also supposed to use web applications much faster as well. The general concept behind it is that it will get people on the web quickly, within just seconds. It is aimed at those computer users who spend a lot of time online and perform a range of tasks using the world wide web. Google Chrome OS will provide the quick connectivity and functionality to the everyday internet user.
According to Google's blog announcement about Chrome OS, it will be different from their Android operating system which they intended for use for items from mobile phones to netbooks. The lightweight, open source Chrome operating system will initially be targeted at netbooks, those small laptop computers intended primarily for internet use. With help from the open source community, Google plans to contintually tweak and fix the new Chrome operating system and make it the best possible web-related operating system on the planet. Eventually, Google will include the new operating system on full-sized desktop PC computers as well.
There have been mixed reviews of the Google Chrome web browser which was also said to provide faster use of the internet. Google is also known for its vast array of online applications including Google Docs, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Reader. Many people also benefit from the use of Google Adsense and Google Analytics on their websites.
Google Chrome OS Download?
Currently there is no Google Chrome OS download available. The Google Chrome operating system is scheduled for a release in 2010 with certain products. Google Chrome OS downloads have not been made available yet as the product won't be out for several more months, and is said to be shipping with certain products specifically netbooks. Google currently offers a Google Chrome web browser which is available for free download.
Google Chrome OS Concerns?
While Google likes to think it can compete with Microsoft in every avenue including productivity apps and now an operating system, this remains to be seen. Google has already touted Chrome OS as being a virus-free operating system. No operating system is completely virus free, including the Macintosh, which many users have supported as being a great computer to have, free of any viruses. Should Chrome OS become widespread in use and popularity, viruses are sure to be developed by malicious cyber hackers.
Another consideration is one many Microsoft Windows user know well, and that is bugs and other issues that present themselves as an operating system is unveiled. There will surely need to be revisions made to the Chrome OS as time goes by, with new versions developed to address these problems.
For now, anxious computer users will patiently wait until the second half of 2010, when Google Chrome OS makes its debut in the tech world!
