Google, CNBC and Wall Street Journal used to post NASDAQ stock prices with 15 minute delay from the real-time quotes. Now they will show real-time NASDAQ quotes.

When you visit finance sites like Google Finance, CNBC, WSJ, Yahoo Finance and others, the stock prices you see are not the real-time NASDAQ quotes, they are delayed by at least 15 minutes. From today, all the sites will be able to show real-time stock quotes.

Adena Friedman, executive vice president of the NASDAQ OMX group said in a press statement:

"With universal access to the Internet and the real-time nature of the Web, investors need real-time data, and now they don't have to pay for it,"

I saw the new feature at Google Finance, they now show real-time data in their main page. Prices updates automatically, you can see the change in prices and the percentages almost once per second according to Google Finance’s product manager Katie Jacobs Stanton.

Google, however doesn’t show real-time data for New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) but may offer it in the future.

Before real-time market data were available only to brokerage firms and the customers had to pay fees to access those quotes. Now Google is making it free for everyone.

Marissa Mayer, Google’s Vice President of Search Products and User Experience said in a press release:

Providing real-time market data on Google Finance is an important step forward in delivering useful information to our users that will help them make more informed and timely financial decisions,"

It is a smart move by Nasdaq, I hope NYSE does the same in the near future.

Thanks Samuilgr8, before we used to pay for the real-time information, this is much better and free.
