Gooogle Launched Latitude, its highly anticipated location tracing service for smart mobile phones. Latitude uses the Global Position System reciever and transmitter available in most modern smartphones to locate the position of your phone thereby tracing yourself and friends. You can download the software from Google.com/Latitude directly into your phone.

Before you start using your Latitude enabled device, you need to add some friends whom you would like to share your location with. If you are a gmail user, your contacts will appear in the list from which you can select. THere is also provision for manual entering. Once the setup is complete and friends are selected,  you can view the location of your friends in the form of avatars in gmail overlayed on a map. This part can be integrated with your iGoogle account also.

For your friends you can either share your location automatically or set manually whenever required. You can also hide yourself. This solves the privacy problem.
