Google search basics: Basic search help
Google Search is simple - just type your query in the Google search box, hit Enter or click on the Google Search button, and Google will search the web for pages that are relevant to your query.
Google will try it best to show exactly what you were looking. However, following tips can help you refine your technique to make the most of your searches.Every word matters to Google: Each and every word you put in the query is used by Google to search the internet. However there are few exceptions.Google Search is NOT Case Sensitive: Searching for "Hubpages" OR "HUBPAGES" OR "hubpages" will deliver the same result.Punctuations: With some exceptions, punctuation is ignored in Google Search. You cannot search for "@#$!%^&*%$#".Google Search: Guidelines for better search results
Keep the Google Search Simple: If you are looking for a particular company or business, just enter its name, or as much of its name as you remember. If you're looking for a restaurant, just enter "restaurant" and name of your town or your zip code. Google says - "Simple is good"
Use short phrases or fewer terms: Short is simple and good. Each additional word in Google search will limit the results.Choose descriptive words: The more unique the word is the more likely you are to get relevant results. E.g. use "mp3 ringtones" and NOT "song ringtones".Tips, Tricks, Help and Tutorial for More Efficient Google Searches

Use of Google Operators in Google Search
1. Define: This operator can help you find definitions of words. E.g. "Define: Universe" will show definition of the word "Universe".
2. Either/or: Google normally searches for pages that contain all the words you type in the search box, but if you want pages that have either one or another term or both, use the OR operator, OR use the "|" symbol.3. Numrange: Numrange operator is used to search results between ranges of numbers. For e.g. "2005..2009" will find 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009.4. Not: This operator is used to eliminate a word or phrase from search result. For E.g. "-scam work from home" will show results with results with "work from home" but will eliminate the pages with the word "scam"5. Site-specific: You can use the "site:" operator to search for a word of phrase within a site E.g. "site:hubpages.com work from home" will display pages with the words "work from home" on all hubs on hubpages.6. File types: This operator can be used to search for specific files like PDF, Word Document or Excel Spreadsheet. Use "Filetype:"7. Just search for "answer to life, the universe, and everything" and see the Easter egg result. I am still wondering how they reached to the answer of 42.More
