Many people use Google every day by simply typing words into the box and reading through the results. However, there are many other features available in the basic search functions of Google.

Google's basic search offers a calculator, a measurement unit converter and a currency converter. Typing a mathematical expression like an addition problem into the Google search box will return the answer. Typing something like "how many yards are there in a mile?" will return 1750 yards.

Searches can be limited to a particular site by adding "site:" to the beginning of a search. It is possible to determine which sites link to a particular site by adding "link:" in front of the site's domain. Google even offers stock quotes! Type the symbol of a stock or a mutual fund into the search box and Google will return the information from Google Finance.

Combined with other features like Google Alerts, some of these basic search features can be extraordinary time-savers.
