Google Cracks Down on Youtube Users
43Most of us online people are youtube users I think.
Corporate lowers it's axe once again.
According to Fox 11 News, Google bought out http://www.youtube.com/ about a month ago and is now starting a crackdown on any copyrighted videos uploaded by users that do not own the copyrights. Named in particular were youtubes featuring TV shows such as South Park.
The former Youtube policy was that if a user uploaded copyrighted material, they and they alone were reponsible for any copyright infringement repercussions. But that's not good enough for the big boys at Google.
Fox 11 also mentioned that MYSPACE was going to crack down as well, on the intro music people add to their myspace listing homepages.
Update
I have noticed on my own youtube stream, many of the songs I'd saved have now been removed, mostly songs by the Beatles and other very commercialized bands. As a youtube user I of course have no way to know who has posted videos they don't own the copyrights too. But I have a feeling the vast majority of uploads are still violating copyright laws.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Working in the music industry for several years, this feels like an extension of the issues that plagued Napster.
