TechCrunch reports that Google is acquiring GrandCentral, an online phone service that links all the phone numbers (home, office, mobile) into one unique number, where messages can be received and organized for easy tracking.

The video demonstrates how the GrandCentral Service works.

TechCrunch reports that Google is about to acquire GrandCentral, a service that links all your phone numbers into one phone number.

GrandCentral is an online phone service that helps the user to combine his or her phone numbers (mobile, home phone, office phone) into one number, so they can access all their messages at one place.

GrandCentral has the following features.

  • Check your messages by phone, email, or online
  • Keep all your messages online for eternity
  • Record and store your phone calls (just like voicemail)
  • Quickly (and secretly) block an annoying caller
  • Click-to-dial from your address book
  • Surprise your callers with a custom voicemail greeting
  • Turn your MP3s into the ring tones your callers hear
  • Forward, download, and add notes to your messages

It is free for now; it gives this one phone number for life. The number is unique and is not tied to a particular phone or location, so you can use wherever you go and get the messages from friends, family and office.

This service integrates all your existing phones, numbers and voicemail boxes in one place.

The service is available in US and Canada; once Google purchases it officially it will extend it to other countries.

They can easily extend this service to GMail, Google Talk or add it as a part of Google Apps. It is a great buy for Google if the sale is approved.

I tried Sindicut for some reason I was unable to get it activated. I will sort it out soon. Looks like a neat service, so we don't have to keep changing the phone numbers. This service will fit perfectly with Google.

Tshritscene, yes you are right, they are buying related categories that will help their Search as well as the Google applications, this will be good for managing all the phone numbers at one place.

Spacebull, I read in one article in the end there will be 8 or 9 major corporations buying all the rest. It is scary, but so far Google has given us so many applications free, so it is useful for us :)
