Gothic Tattoos

The whole sub culture of Goth dates all the way back to the 1970's. This subculture is very well and alive in today's society throughout England and the United States alike. So what make a person Goth? Well, that Is a little hard to say since the Goth group is very eclectic by nature and members are all very individual and unique on their own. Of course you can point out the basics like a preponderance of black clothes, unique and dark fashions, things with lace, leather and chains. Some believe that Goth's are only fascinated with death and are a very morbid group. However, this is a grave misunderstanding and an over simplification of the Goth sub culture. These people are way to eclectic to be summer up in one simple statement. There are many that have a fascination with the dark side of humans and even death. However, many that are into Goth are highly artistic, unique and like to stress their individuality and separation from mainstream society. As a result most Goth people like to enhance their overall image and body with tattoos. This has a lead to a whole area of tattoo designs called Gothic Tattoos.

What Are Goth Tattoos

Occult

The first category of tattoo that are commonly thought of to be more Goth in nature are Occult tattoos. This is a part of the New Age metaphysical movement. There is a belief in altered states of mind and special energies and forces at work in the world. Goths like to get tattoos that display their belief in the occult and even Wiccan rituals. Some typically themes are that of witches, tarot cards, crystals, Viking Runes (used for fortune telling), The Pentacle (Five pointed star) and the "athame" a double edged sword used in some of these rituals.

Fantasy

Another popular area or Goth tattoos is the arena of fantasy. Things like fairies, Elves, Dragons, and Dreams. There is a solid belief in a fantasy world that ties in with the Occult and often comes out in fantasy tattoo designs. Magical forests full of wizards, and other special creatures.

Medieval

Along with the fantasy world comes the last category of tattoos that Goth people often get. These are of brave Knights slaying a dragon, damsels in distress and other mythological and fantasy creatures much like above.

The sub-culture of people who are into the Gothic music and a Gothic lifestyle is a wide and varied group and range of people. There are also a wide vareity of different tattoo designs that they will often get inked. Therefore above are some of the more common themes for Gothic Tattoo designs.
