Gout is a chronic disease that can produce severe swelling of the joints. It is caused by a defect in the body's natural process in breaking down certain protein. This will then result in the production of too much uric acid that accumulate in the blood.

Uric acid is a waste product that is normally excreted in the urine, but a person suffering in this disease have defective body chemistry which causes them to deposit the substance as crystals in their joints, it is a small lumps beneath the skin, and inside the kidney where they can form renal stone.

Things to know about Gout:

  • Gout usually occurs in men.
  • If gout is not treated properly it can lead to progressive kidney damage that can lead to kidney failure.
  • Gout is not curable, but it can be controlled by proper treatment.

Symptoms of Gout : Gout is characterized by a strong pain in the toes (usually the big toes) and fingers. It can also be present in the kidneys.

Causes of Gout :

  • The cause of Gout is a metabolic problems which is evidenced by an excess of uric acid in the blood. The salt deposits of this acid irritate the tissues surrounding the joints, mainly in the fingers and toes, and cab cause inflammation and strong pain.
  • An incorrect diet, red meat, obesity and hereditary factors as well as stress are the main causes of this disease.

Recommended Treatments :

  • Drink lots of water and fruit juices.
  • Lose weight through exercise and proper diet.
  • Stop the consumption of red meat, fat, beer and red wine.
  • Don't eat refined carbohydrates.
  • Eat a large amount of strawberries, cherries and cranberries. This fruits are rich in flavenoids which givesthem their bluish-red color and serve to stop the destruction of collagen, the principal material of cartilage and tendons.
  • Vitamin E, A(betacarotene) - potent anti-oxidant, improves circulation, repairs and maintains body tissue.
  • Take Vitamins A, E, B1, B12 and
  • Take minerals like ; calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and potassium - for proper composition and body function.
  • Omega-3 - EPA blocks inflamed prostaglandins.
