The four commercial motor cyclists who foiled a kidnap attempt in the oil rich city of Nigeria, Port Harcourt have been rewarded by the Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The motor cyclists, Sani Joshua from Akwanga in Plateau State got three million naira while Meedo Adoo and Peter Johnson got two million naira each.Osaki Harry got a car and five hundred thousand naira.

Announcing the reward at the Rivers State government House on Monday, Governor Amaechi said the reward is a recognition of gallant effort by the cyclists in the fight against kidnapping in the State.

Governor Amaechi noted that the risk the cyclists took last Thursday, to chase after the kidnappers, who were speeding off in their bus carrying their abducted victims, was a huge sacrifice.

He called on residents of the State to support government to nip crime in the bud and thanked the four young men for their action .

While acknowledging that God used them to save the lives of the abducted children,as well as to expose the evil men behind the criminal acts, he said the State government would settle the hospital bills of the injured persons.

Presenting the Cyclists to the governor, the State Police Commissioner, Bala Hassan said the courage of the four motor cyclists underscores the need for members of the public to assist the police in combating crime in the State.

One of the Okada[commercial motor cyclists]Osaki Harry said he had always read and heard about kidnappers but never seen them.

With the anger he has developed for their activities, when he was alerted that Thursday morning while on his daily commercial activities; for he had barely hired the bike for a brief ‘run around', but had to chased after the kidnappers. Though he was staking his life his intention was to rescue the two children.

On Thursday 16the July, 2008, the kidnappers abducted Theophilus junior,eight years old and Belema, six years old belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Theophilus Wellington who work with the Shell Petroleum Development Company .

The arrested kidnappers are Sarowiyo Denge,a three hundren level law student of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology,Nkpolu from Khana LGA and the other three from Imo State.In a swift reaction, the University authority said they are yet to confirm if Mr. Denge is one of its students.

The Police said about 8.00am, a distress call was received saying that a lady ;Mrs. Wellington, who was taking her two children to an elitist school called Grove School was attacked and her two children snatched away from her.

When the kidnappers were driving off, Maidoo Adoo chased after them but was hit off the road by the kidnappers and he fell off sustaining severe injuries. But Sani Joshua joined in the chase ,overtook the kidnappers' bus and blocked it from the front part.

The kidnappers were forced to come down to run away to safety on foot .They were unlucky because Sani caught one of them and with the aid of other Okada ridders they prevented the kidnappers from runing away until the Police came and to arrest them.
