Granola Fruit Kabobs on Manic Monday
70Cut To The Chase
Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Manic Monday, November 23, 2009. The Senate has been working like little busy bees over the week-end to pave the way for our ruination. Let's prepare a hearty breakfast to give us the strength to digest some of the details of the Senate bill.
This morning I will be cooking up a Granola Fruit Kabob. If you care to join me you will need 2 cups granola, 2 medium apples, cut into chunks, 2 medium bananas, chunked too, 1 cup fresh pineapple chunks, 1 cup vanilla yogurt and a splash of lemon juice. Place granola in a shallow bowl. Toss the fruit with a small amount of lemon juice. Now insert toothpicks into each piece of fruit. Dip fruit in yogurt and roll in granola. Think of this as the "morning appetizer". Now to the ugly facts about the Senate bill.
Harry Reid really must have it in for all of us. His bill is chock full of tax increases and other hideous proposals, enough to ruin much more than a morning or two. Let's explore just a few of the items that stand out. To begin with, the bill proposes raising 493 billion dollars by increasing taxes on health insurance, medical innovation( a great way to stifle innovation forever), payrolls and small businesses. Just to add insult to injury we will not see one single benefit until 2014, but we will start paying for it in 2010 (as if things weren't hard enough already). Reid is proposing 465 billion dollars in cuts to the Medicare and Medicaid programs. We can only surmise that the Senate Democrats don't find seniors or the impoverished a worthwhile investment. Further proof of this last statement is revealed in the creation of a new Medicare commission who will be charged with rationing care. The commission will be composed of unelected bureaucrats. Doesn't this just make you feel warm and fuzzy?
There is a provison in the bill called the Doc Fix" that would add 250 billion to the deficit not included in the Democrats projection of costs. There they go again with that peculiar "accounting". We can look forward to the creation of a new entitlement for long-term care that has been characterized as a "Ponzi Scheme". Sounds like another program that we can't afford, but who's counting. One last little nugget of information to ponder. We can't afford this. We can't afford any of this. This bill is unsustainable. We are on a collision course with disaster. What is this really all about?
I have begun to believe that this insane push toward reform at a time of such high unemployment and uncertainty doesn't really have to do with health care at all. I believe it has to do with power. I am convinced that the President and his "people" and his accomplices in Congress see this time in history as the perfect moment to strike. They want to push this bill forward because they are convinced that they can get away with it precisely because so many people are out of work and worried. Strike while the iron is hot, must be the Democrats fight song.
This explains it all to me. Their refusal to listen to the public outcry, their determination to ram this costly beast of a bill through despite our crushing deficit and their repudiation of all intelligent opposition. It's the power they want and once this bill is passed it will be the power they get...POP...

Good morning Sheri,
Wow, you're up early! These irresponsible clowns in Washington don't have a clue about how to fix anything. They are not really focused on job creation or the debt, so we can only conclude that they want to permanently bring this country to its knees. Then they swoop in and take over everything and claim they saved us from destruction.
Morning Pop, Your Granola Fruit kabobs sound delicious. This bill is over 2000 pages so I think we are probably in for a few more surprises. They had to give MS Mary Laundrau, LA Democrat $1,000,000 to get her vote. I can't understand how people can be for government health care that won't begin to help anyone for years. Plus it includes illegal aliens. I wonder when Obama will apologize to Joe Wilson?
Good morning Pamela,
Glad you like the recipe. Wish we could say the same for this disaster of a bill. This is the biggest piece of the socialism puzzle that the Dems can't wait to put in place.
We are in deep doo-doo. The part of healthcare reform that is disturbing to me is that it is supposed to cover 15% of the population. So, they screw up healthcare for 85%. Great! The question is: Why? I read a story over the weekend that a hospital in Georgia was closing. This hospital gave kidney dialysis to illegal aliens. Dialysis is amazingly expenseive. So, the illegals will have to look elsewhere. The point is that they will get treatment. Anyone who walks into a hospital in this country gets treatment. So, why is our healtcare so bad? Speaks of socialism. Just like Reagan said many years ago. Turn a country socialist by starting with medical caree. We are in deeper trouble than we ever imagined. BARTENDER.........
This health care bill is on a lay-a-way plan. The people pay, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay,........................until they lay you away!!!!!!!!!!!
POP: After this weekend, this is certainly manic Monday.
when the house was voting a few weeks ago, it was televised all day. The Senate's vote was not on TV all day. Interesting! I cannot decide which bill is worse - the House or the Senate.
Anyway, I have heard several times from the journalists on the Sunday TV programs that Congress says they are going to reduce Medicare all the time, but never votes to do so. Hope they're still right.
Note to Pamela 99 - I think you forgot a few zero's - Senarot Landreau is not getting One Million, but One Hundred Million that's $100,000,000. Not bad for a vote.
I wonder what Lieberman did for Connecticut! He was dead set against this bill until Mid morning Saturday!
POP: I'm off to the bar- you know I have to catch a filght to be there on time - save me a seat.....
Dear taxlarry,
Interesting story about the hospital that's closing. Nothing about this rush to "reform" makes sense in terms of better health care. It is about control and power. I'll meet you at the bar and I'm buying.
Good morning Tom,
You should patent that quote, it's memorable and oh so true.
Good morning Pino,
I had no idea, did Joe change his mind? The Senate bill is awful, but I have a sick feeling they are going to pass it. Hop on that plane and I'll save you a seat at the bar. We need to console each other. Oh, I'm buying.
Pop
Great Hub once again; I think I would have served Fruit Loops instead; it better describes the Commicrats that voted for this plan. Of course Harry’s bill is full of tax increases; IT’S A DEMOCRAT BILL (You gotta soak those evil rich people with more taxes)!
Of course the benefits don’t kick in until 2014, but we will start paying for it in 2010, how else could they pull their smoke and mirror scheme to get the CBO to score it under 1 Trillion $$$$$. You get 10 years of taxes and cuts to pay for 4 years of benefits. When scored on a year for year basis the bill cost 2.5 Trillion $$$$$$. Instead of a "Ponzi Scheme", they have just pulled off a Harry Scheme!
Remember what Rahm “Dead Fish” Emanuel said, “you never want to let a crisis go to waste.” Well in this case you are absolutely correct, the President and his "people" and his accomplices in Congress see this time in history as the perfect moment to strike; they are convinced that they can get away with it precisely because so many people are out of work and worried!
Dear Patriot,
We really are in a mess, aren't we? They will in all probability pull this disaster off. The Democrats' blatant disregard for the public sentiment is appalling. They deserve to be impeached, along with their illustrious leader who can't even pretend to act Presidential.
As sure as Judas betrayed Jesus, there was a reason he had to do so. The Democrats will betray each and every American for an underlying reason that is unknown to all of us outside the circle.
Pop, if your buying I'm drinking, it might as well be seen as a blur as we go down for the third time. I arrived early and after typing my original post I just converted it to a hub.
Alas I leave you with my political incorrectness of the day:
A guy traveling through Mexico on vacation lost his wallet and all of his
identification. Cutting his trip short, he attempted to make his way home but
was stopped by the U.S. Customs Agent at the border.
"May I see your identification, please?" asked the agent.
"I'm sorry, but I lost my wallet," replied the guy.
"Sure buddy, I hear that every day. No ID, no entry," said the agent.
"But I can prove I'm an American!" he exclaimed. "I have a picture of
Ronald Reagan tattooed on one side of my butt and George Bush on the other."
"This I gotta see," replied the agent.
With that, the guy dropped his pants and showed the agent his behind.
"By golly, you're right!" exclaimed the agent. "Have a safe trip back to Chicago ."
"Thanks!" he said. "But how did you know I was from Chicago ?"
The agent replied, "I recognized Obama in the middle."
Good morning 50 caliber,
What would I do without you? Your politically incorrect humor makes my day. I'll be at the bar and yes I'm buying. I'm off to read your hub now. Talk to you in a bit.
50, Heee,Heee,Heee!!!!!
POP, you always do such a good job. Looks Like Chicago politics continues, and I fear that there are some who are giving up because they feel that there is nothing we can to to stop them. I spoke with a doctor yesterday who said that he will retire early if the government doesn't stop meddling. Can you blame him, or any others?
Dear Jiberish,
How are mother and baby doing? I hope your grandson can grow up in a nation that is still free and unfettered. We can protest and we have to and then we have to get rid of all those in Washington who could care less about our views. I just hope that the damage they are sure to inflict is reversible.
POP, Great as usual. The only hope is that since this will not take effect for over four years, there will be time to amend it away. Lets just hope people can stay focused that long.
I so enjoy all the jokes and comments we all share here. We really need to look for a laugh because ain't nothin' funny about what is going on in DC. My brothers are both doctors, and one of them is seriously considering cutting his work in half because he doesn't want to fall into Barry's "evil, rich group" which would add even more to his enormous tax burden!
Pop, like it was said, never let a crisis go to waste (or something like this). I have to agree that this is a consolidation of power taking place and it doesn't matter what the people want. They are going to destroy our economy one way or another. You mentioned that a Medicare Commission will be set up. Years ago we had a similar commission in Florida for Medicaid. It turned out that the head of the commission was investigated for years for fraud within the Medicaid program until finally they had enough proof to convict him. I forgot this guys name as it was many years ago but the commission set up to oversee Medicaid, was in itself corrupt. Can probably expect more of the same but on a larger level.
Loved 50 calibres story needed the laugh, good for the soul. What's going on in DC even has some Democrats a scratching. Wonder if they have "bloomer crickets or something"
Dear C.J.
Of course you realize that we start paying for this mess immediately. Thanks for stopping by.
Dear Sheri,
I imagine that a lot of doctors will just drop out. When you have to start answering to the government, you are no longer practicing medicine.
Dear ehern,
I think you are right. What a mess. We have so many recent examples of how inept and stupid the government can be. I wish we could find a way to derail this before it becomes our reality.
Dear Robert,
I agree 50 caliber rocks. I don't know what bloomer crickets are but I hope the Dems have them!
POP, absolutely! I certainly hope people don't forget that! So much has been said of death panels, rationed care, etc. The basic math on this bill doesn't work! Its amazing realy.
Dear c.j,
The bill is totally unsustainable. What is wrong with these clowns in Washington?
Absolutely, it is not about anything BUT power. I read today that one democrat said "We would like to pass it with the support of the Republicans but we aren't going to not pass a bill if they don't" (This is not an exact quote BTW). That right there says it all. That goes against everything that democracy stands for. He may as well have just said, "We know the American people (AKA our constituents) don't want this.....we just don't care.
That's it in a nutshell. Our elected representatives in Congress ( mainly the Dems) only represent themselves. They really could care less what we think.
POP, they are basically doing what they accused the banking industry of doing for the last 8 years....wild, speculative, reckless gambling. They are gambling that getting this done will get them re-elected. Of course it wont take affect until a second term. The results will take years after even the second term. By the time America has caught on....he will be long gone. However he will have met his campaign promise of "Fundimentally Changing America"
The math on the health care still doesn't add up to me. Cut 450 billion out of medicare, and take it out of the other pocket.
Keep on hubbing!
Dear C.J.
To me it is patently absurd for the Dems to believe passage of this bill will get them reelected. I firmly believe it will get them booted out. This bill is a nightmare and the fact that they have turned a deaf ear to the concerns of the electorate is criminal.
Dear eovery,
The math isn't math its flim flam..
Pop,
I've been sending e-mails to our senators and congressmen telling them that they need to listen to and protect their constituents, not be bullied into giving the almighty BO whatever he wants. All I get is the automated reply. What's happening now is such bullshit, there's no rhyme nor reason to what's happening. We all need to at least, contact our senators and congressmen and inundate them with pleas to not inflict this garbage on us.
It's funny that you asked if this could all be reversed....I just asked my husband if any of these horrible bills should be passed, can the next administration just return us to what we have now, and perhaps give thought to what productive changes can be GRADUALLY made.
Dear Francine,
I think it's great that you wrote to your illustrious representatives. You will probably get a better reply than the quick automated one, but it is highly unlikely you will be satisfied with their responses. My fear is that once this "garbage" gets passed it is here to stay. Meet us at the bar. I'm buying.
Good stuff Pop! As we discussed, and as I can also see from the above responses, this dung heap just goes grows larger and larger. We are all concerned for nations continued existence, but you can only load the mule so much before you break his back.
Sorrry I am so late but all that complaining about nothing,
after all My Sunday Paper had this by the AP and it says it all.. It tells everyone why this bill is so important..
I quote the AP
Invoking the memory of Edward M. Kennedy, Democrats
united Saturday night to push historic Health care legislation past a key Senate Hurdle over the opposition of Republicans
eager to inflict a punishing defeat on President Barack Obama.
Oh yeah it is all about Obama,,,,,,, AGAIN!!
I wonder how many Senators speaking in opposition said we oppose this bill so we can impose a big defeat on Obama!!! AP standing in line for bailout money and they call themselves News.. Talk about Fox!!
BP, What a mess this health-care legislation is,
and the tax increases to cover it make me want to whiz!
It is hard for me to imagine how any one of them can be,
an author of any part of this flagrant stupidity!
It only takes a smidgen of common sense to see the writing on the wall,
The passing of this bill will cause our country to seriously fall!
Soon our money will be as weak as that of Mexico and other third world countries,
Thanks to Obama and his flunkies we will be forced on beggars knees!
Our elderly and diseased will be shoved aside to die,
As we watch helpless with nothing to do but cry!
Our small businesses will close one after another,
Leaving devastation for each mother and father!
More hospitals will close, no doctors will want to work,
All due to this administration, headed by a jerk!
Foreclosures, Repossessions, Bankruptcy's, Empty Food Closets,
Full Homeless Shelters, Families living on the streets,
as bad as it gets!
Murder suicide, theft- a raging maniac out of control,
People willing to do anything to survive, even giving their soul!
The United States of America, turned into, the Obama Nation,
His tragic, sick creation, will be an Abomination!
I'm confused
Dear jjustice,
You're so right about the mule analogy. Our back is about to be broken a bit more with a "war" tax. Everything is completely out of control thanks to an irresponsible President and Congress.
Dear greatAmerican,
A is another name for AARP, twins separated at birth!
Dear poet laureate,
Our nation is in deep doo-do!
Dear mercon,
Welcome to breakfastpop. What confuses you? Maybe I can help.
Wow! Breakfast delicious-
hesitant to comment on someone else's politics (politeness!)-but it does seem an awful mess over there-just like our stinking little corrupt island (government, that is)--Power is the name of the game.
Dear itakins,
Feel free to comment all you want. Your perspective would be interesting and welcome. You are 100 percent correct, we are in a mess!
The healthcare bill is not a healthcare bill - I completely agree with you. It is, in fact, a tax law. It will become a part of the IRC - Internal Revenue Code - it is written as a TAX amendment.
Under the 14th Amendment rights are replaced by privileges that are limited at the pleasure of the government. That's why you have no 5th Amendment protection against self-incrimination in a tax case - for example, you are compelled to convict yourself by presenting evidence against yourself. Why? Because the tax code does not recognize rights.
Now you know WHY the "healthcare" bill is written as a tax amendment.
Pretty slick, huh?
Dear Madame X,
Very, very sick. This would make an excellent hub. Think about it.

Pop- you certainly hit the nail on the head this time. I firmly believe that the goal of this administration is to destroy this country through class warfare, and now through fiscal ruination. As I have said before, WHO is supposed to pay for this? Unemployment continues to rise, so fewer people are paying into any system. The administration also conmtinues to extend unemployment benefits--I guess that's just a few more billion borrowed from China. Who cares anyway--the fools in our government obviously don't!
