Ask Susan Peters Dog Food Review:

The only good thing I can say about Gravy Train is that it scored higher than Science Diet and it's a lot cheaper. Animal digest (manure) and "Meat".

Meat from what? Recycled dogs and cats?? Shame!

Gravy Train actually said this, "Gravy Train gives your dog 100% complete and balanced nutrition"

No possible way Gravy Train is healthy.

I have 3 dogs that just started eating Gravy Train dry dog and they are very ill. Maybe they should be testing this as well. Never had this problem with them before.

I lost my dog who was fed exclusively with Gravy Train dry dog food. She starved herself for about 35 days before I had to put her down. She had all of the symptons others have reported. The vet, after approx. $3000 in bills for tests , including exploratory surgery, had no clues.

I have e-mailed Del Monte corp. twice asking for their assurance that their product did not kill my dog. Guess what, they haven't answered.

Any ideas on what I should do next?

I have always fed my dog gravy train. He died all of a sudden on March 15, 2007. He was 7 years old. He started getting sick they took a blood count and said it was low asked me if he had been around any rat poison. Which he had not. He got worse all of a sudden. He stopped eating. The vet suspected poisioning because of his symptoms. We didn't make it for his appointment to the vet for a bone marrow biopsy he died. There was no reason he was fenced in away from catching anything from other animals that could be sick. We miss our dog Chase very much. He was a good dog and he gaurded our home to the last day even if his strength went away.

I am so sorry!

Please read my earlier post.

If you suspect that Gravy Train dry food had anything to do with the sickness/death of your pet, e-mail Del Monte.

Ask them to reassure you, by stating unequivocally, that their product could not be the problem.

Also advise them that you will not be satisfied with their standard letter of reply, you want the written reassurance you request

Cole,

Bad news. Pedigree is named in a Class Action lawsuit due to the deaths and illness of pets.

Feed with caution.

Most of your recipes have food products which ARE HARMFUL TO DOGS....baby food...VERY BAD....GARLIC....VERY BAD....SUGAR....VERY BAD...WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE GET YOUR INFORMATION?

AskSusanPeters profile image

AskSusanPeters  says:

Michele,

Baby food is to be used in a pinch. Of course, you read the warnings about garlic, nuts, raisins, etc. on the home made recipe page.

You asked where the recipes came from. Most were submitted by people who use the recipes themselves. I tried to include the name of the person who submitted the recipe and a web address if available.

Ironic you chose this page to discuss harmful recipes.

I hope I answered your questions.

Does anyone have anything good to say about gravy train? My Black Lab loves when I mix in wet food so I thought this was a perfect solution... just stared today actually and he loved it but there is no way I will keep giving it to him if all the reviews are bad.

diane  says:

Have heard from Del Monte employees that there is horse meat in Gravy Train. Is this true?

Pamela  says:

I don't think that it true, they have to put all ingredients on the label so check that.
