Great Christian Books for Teens
58I've heard it said from many successful adults that the person you become over time is impacted most by the books you read and the people you associate with on a daily basis. Teens in general today need access to learning practical life skills as well academics. The following are several life skills books geared toward Christian teenagers:
1) Battlefield of the Mind for Teens by Joyce Meyer and Todd Hafer (ISBN: 0446697648)
In a world where we are literally bombarded with hundreds of different messages on a daily basis, teens need to know how to develop a stable and steady mindset no matter what the circumstances are around them. This book explains how to do that from a Christian perspective.
2) Chicken Soup for the Christian Teenage Soul Stories to Open the Hearts of Christian Teens by Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen, Kimberly Kirberger, Patty Aubery, and Nancy Mitchell-Autio (ISBN: 0757300952)
I have a lot of high regard for the Chicken Soup series in general because every book I've read from them has touched my life in a positive way. Another great thing about it is that stories can be read in 5-15 minute settings, perfect for teens who are busy.
3) When Teens Pray: Powerful Stories of How God Works by Cheri Fuller and Ron Luce (ISBN: 1576739708)
This book can give teens the information they need to know about how prayer can work for their individual situations as well as impact their schools for the better.
4) A Teen's Guide to Christian Living: Practical Answers to Tough Questions About God and Faith by Bettie Youngs, Jennifer Leigh Youngs, and Debbie Thurman
This book gives straightforward answers to common questions teens think about when it comes to Christianity. It draws directly from the Bible as well as authorities in various fields.
5) The Dream Giver by Bruce Wilkinson and Heather Kopp (ISBN: 159052201X)
I love this book and wish I had read it as a teenager. It deal with God putting a dream in your life that you're often pulled to pursue, as well as the stages dreamers go through in pursing their dreams. It begins with a story format and then has a discussion. I personally got the audio book version initially, which is great as well.
In addition to books in the Christian genre, I would suggest books about people skills, personal finance, and how to develop a career that they'll love doing. The earlier they can put some planning into what they need to be a successful adults, the easier the transition will be. Any reading can be gradually incorporated as a part of life, with a few minutes a day on a steady basis being just as good as sitting down for an hour at a time. Like adults, many teens have busy lives. Long-term however, this can really help them get more out of life.
