If Great Dane house training is your next challenge, you should actually consider yourself lucky, because you've chosen the right breed. If your Great Dane is still a puppy, you'll be working with a smart breed that wants to make you happy. Furthermore, since Great Danes are as big as they are, they have larger bladders than most dogs and they therefore feel the urgency to urinate less frequently than smaller breeds.

The most important things you'll need for your Great Dane house training, are common sense, a good schedule, consistency, and a good deal of patience. Use your puppy's desire to please you to your advantage when you're Great Dane house training and give him or her all of the tools needed for success - such as frequent trips outside and a lot of praise when the puppy does what you want.

Crate training will also be an important part of your Great Dane house training because you'll be able to mimic the natural den instincts your dog has. These instincts include an inclination not to urinate or otherwise soil within his or her sleeping space. Therefore, if your dog sleeps in a crate overnight, you'll minimize the chance of nighttime accidents.

Keep in mind that if your dog can't hold it anymore, he or she will go anyway, even if it means having an accident in his or her sleeping space. Make sure that you never make your Great Dane wait too long before having the chance to go outside.

When you do have your dog outside, the Great Dane house training continues. Make sure to communicate clearly with your dog, using commands to indicate that you're ready for your dog to do his or her business. It can be whatever you want, from "hurry up", to "do your thing", or "go on". Whatever command works for you as long as you're consistent about using it.

Once your Great Dane does the right thing, remember that praise is just as important a part of Great Dane house training than getting your dog outside on time. Be sure to make it clear that your dog has done exactly what you wanted, and you're happy with him or her.
