What We Do To Get Rid of Hair!

No matter what people say, everyone on the face of this earth has some unslightly hair, somewhere, anywhere! It's embarassing, its ugly, it could be dark! Shaving it doesn't work (it just comes right back to bite you again), plucking is out of the question (who has 8 hours in case its a big patch of hair). Then you finally get frustrated and turn to natures painful resolution....waxing. Most people scream at the thought of it...hot wax, strips, yanking of poor hair follicles! Yes, it all adds up to big horror flick scream. BUT, it works.

So, how do I know and why should you trust me? let's just say that waxing has been a frequent hobby of mine for plenty of years and trial and error is the only way to learn. I am a wax master. But enough of that....let's get you waxing safely and with only minimal pain....(but i can't guaruntee the pain free part).

Getting Prepped

Ok, so you've made the decision to wax those pesky hairs. Here is what you need before you dive into hairy territory.

  • Baby powder: in order to make waxing slightly easier, it is essential to have your skin as dry as possible. Any hint of slippery skin could make waxing even more dreadful.

  • Waxing strips: having waxing strips are pretty much the most important thing to have besides the actual wax, otherwise... you can't wax. The best kind of strips to use are actually just a pair of old jeans cut up into however size you need them. Jean strips are great because they are tough and reuseable.

  • Wax: Obviously everyone knows that in order to wax, you've got to have the actual wax, yet many people don't know which wax to get. There are 3 types of wax: hot wax, sugar wax, and cold wax. Hot wax is the most common and works the best with tough hair. I do not recommend cold wax or sugar wax, as those can be hard to use and may be painful when just applying to the skin. Hot wax just glides right on without pulling at the hair.

  • Aloe vera lotion/gel: After waxing, the skin's pores are wide open, so DO NOT apply the oil that many wax packages offer to calm the skin. This equals putting bacteria right onto open pores. To soothe the skin from shock, apply aloe vera lotion or gel over the waxed area. This will effectively help calm irritated skin.

  • A wet towel: Many don't realize that wax can be a messy situation, therefore it is always helpful to have a hot towel at hand. Do not use oil or regular wipes as again, using hot water will help kill bacteria instead of adding to it.

1,2,3....Wax!

Now that you've got everything ready and set to go, you're probably thinkin' how the heck to actually start waxing. Here are some tips to get you started and some basic rules for waxing different parts of your body.

  • Before you start waxing, make sure that the area you are about to wax is clean. Wash it with soap and water and then dry it off. Apply baby powder.

  • Hair length should be at least 1/8 of an inch in order for the wax to grasp the hair.

  • If you are using hot wax, it is a smart idea to have a heater in front of the container so that you do not have to keep running back and forth half naked to warm up the wax. (it can become cold fast)

  • For any body part, always apply the wax in the direction that the hair is growing and always pull the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth.

Safe Waxing

Now that you are off to a good start, here are some things to keep in mind while waxing. Practice safe waxing!

  • Waxing on open sores or cuts is a big no-no! The wax could infect any sores or rip open any existing cuts/scabs you may have.

  • Waxing can be done on many areas of the body, even for men!

  • When applying the wax, make sure that it is not hot enough to burn your skin! Test the wax on your wrist first, as it is the most sensitive area. You should be able to tolerate the heat.

  • Put the wax strip on where you put the wax and rub it so the strip effectively sticks. Count until 3 and take a deep breath. Be sure to pull off the strip quick and close to the skin at a 45 degree angle. Poof! Your hair should be gone.

  • Your skin will look red and irritated, but this is normal. Your hair follicles have been ripped out and your skin is experiencing shock.

  • If you have sensitive skin and experience white heads after waxing, it means that bacteria is somehow finding its way into your open pores. In order to stop the reaction, after waxing, immediately wash your skin with soap and water. After washing, apply aloe vera on your skin to calm the irritated pores. This should minimize the breakout.

  • Waxing is not painless! If any product says that they can eliminate any pain from waxing, they are pulling your chain. If you cannot tolerate the pain from waxing, you can go to the nearest pharmacy and request an over the counter numbing cream. this should help eliminate any discomfort.

  • If applying the wax and putting on strips is too complicated, one can always use pre-made wax strips. Just rub them between your hands and pull apart, then apply the waxed strip to your hairy area and follow procedure as you would normally.

If you follow these steps carefully, waxing will be a unique experience, but a safe one at that. However, waxing is not for all hair types. If your hair is not course and light in color, you can always head in a more comforting direction that will take care of the problem.

  • Body bleach: Body bleach helps blend the color of your hair and the color of your skin so it looks like you have absolutely no hair.

You should be on your way to being hair free in no time! Happy waxing!
